Default No warranty for dead pixels or insects.

I noticed a spot on my LG 55” led tv. Googled the problem and found pictures of dead pixels which looked the same. The tv being only 18 monthe old, I thought I had 1 year warranty with 2 years extension. It turns out I have 2 year LG warranty and 3 year GG extension.
Sent pictures to LG and received a call saying their Tech thinks it looks like an insect and gave me a contact for an authorised serviceman. Sent picture to serviceman and he said no that is 1 dead pixel and LG warranty doesn’t cover less than 5.
Now a close up picture I can count 3 pixels in a row maybe covering 6.
After a bit of to and froing, 2 weeks after noticing the spot I can’t stop looking at, I turned on the TV and the original spot had faded.

Now there is another 2 spots, one slightly smaller than the original and about 100mm directly below and another small spot 50mm below that.

So now I think the Technicians thought of it being an insect might be correct.

I spoke with serviceman he doesn’t know how an insect could get inside because they are sealed.
Also you can’t open the screen to clean them it would have to be replaced.

LG say they don’t cover for insects and gave me another repairer contact. Now I cannot get past the receptionist who is unable to tell me if it is repairable and I will have to pay $90 for a report.

That is the background to my question.

Is it possible to have the inside on an LED TV cleaned or will I need a replacement screen?

I did clean some PC screens, not all successfully...
There are two big issues with foreign objects between the actual panel and the front foild over the display.
    a) they are designed to be a sealed unit
    b) apart from minor dust around the edges bigger particles or even insects can only enter during manufactoring
Downside is they don't always stay sealed
Most panels use a metal frame that is clipped together or onto other parts of the panel, removing this first bit can be tricky as you don't won't to bend the clips.
Once the frame is gone you should be able to get the actual panel out (laying with the front on a table) and the display flois should stay inside the outer frame.
Some models place the various foils on the screen and the top layer is glued around the edges - this is only "cleanable" if the part of the panel is covered once mounted as otherwise you will see that you peeled the foil off the display.
But even if you really get to the stage of cleaning the panel and all foild you have the major problem of new dust settling on it while you work with the parts.
A hair, some fine dust or even your own skin flakes can get trapped again and you will only see it once you fire up the screen again.
I had a big, sealed plastic container with a glass lid and filtered air supply almost like a sand blasting chamber and even with that I sometimes had to start over as still some particles remained.
If it really is something between the foils that was alive at one stage you might also face the problem of cleaning some excrement or dried body fluids off the foil or panel, if the area is coated you can damage the coating and you will always see the spot....

Might be worth to check Ebay and Gumtree for the same model with other faults to get a cheap spare....

I have seen plenty of newer LED backlit LCD panels with insects in them. Ants seem to be the most common, with small moths running a close second. These panels aren't hermetically sealed by any measure and there are plenty of holes for determined carbon based lifeforms to enter. Just wait for them to become dessicated and turn to dust, they will eventually fall away. BTW no warranty covers insect infestation.

The simplest thing to do is contact the department of fair trading in your state and just ask them where you stand.
You'll probably find that you're covered under normal warranty and double insured with the extra warranty.
They'll be able to tell you what your rights and options are.

It's always best to approach fair trading assuming that you have no rights and they will bring you up to speed with where you stand.

In the good old days some insects in the TV cause a slight fizz at worst but the never managed to get into the tube.....
If you want to upgrade to an insect proof screen I can off a nice analog CRT TV with working remote.
It is only about a quarter of your current screen size, so cleaning is easier too and uses less time.
Worked for 15 odd years and will most likely work for another 15 years.
Wonder when some smart Korean guys starts selling insect traps for flat screen TV's....

don't know, the first one looks very square, but the second one does look like a bug
When I explained to the guy what avatar I wanted, that wasn't what I meant!

I agree the first one seems to be pixels, the other one looks like a bug.

The 1st pic is the original spot but not as close the second is after 2 weeks when it dropped vertically by 100mm.
LG wanted a photo from normal seating position with no zoom. That picture looked if I was sitting 20m away.

Can you set your camera so that it is close up, in zoom mode, and it will show us again.

If it had dropped down, to me the untrained, I would be thinking a bug.

    Good luck.

We may need to run a 'sticky strip' around the perimeter of our flats creens if this is a possibility.

This might sound like another joke, but:
How about using a suction cup right above the insect?
With a gentle lift it should be possible to get enough space between the foil and display that the insect fan fall further down.
Repeat until the damn thing is out of sight.
Of course this only works if the insect is trapped between the first two layers from the front.
Only other option that I see is to take the display apart to seperate the foild and remove the insect that way,
once done and confirmed clean put sticky tape or arcylic sealer on every possible gap around the screen and metal frame.

When I first thought it was a dead pixel I read where you can fix a stuck pixel by tapping the screen to try to activate it. All this did was leave a shadow around it.
I then tried a pixel fix program of flashing colours. It was the next day when the spot dropped 100 mm, leaving a dirty spot in the original position and a smaller spot 50mm under the new spot.
I then tried a suction cap taping the top, back, shaking and jarring everything to no avail.
So now I am hoping it will just decay.

Smile It pays to be persistent.

The Bug in gone I had used a suction cup dent puller from super cheap and the bug had not moved. I had even turned the screen upside down and tried to shake it out. Last night I thought I would give it another go with the suction cup. This time I might not have been as careful as I had previously. But great news, the bug has bugged off.

What would you suggest is satisfactory? Offer a free pest control service to prevent insects entering a TV? Have a technician standing by the TV at all times to ward off rogue winged or crawling invaders?
Or perhaps, act as all manufacturers would and repair genuine fault conditions under warranty.
