    Default Tomtom GPS recommendations

    Hey all,

I am looking at buying a new GPS, 4'3" widescreen unit.. i definatly want to go tomtom..

Can anyone tell me what unit they might recommend, obviously looking to pay as little as I can but if there is features worth having in the higher units then thatd be worth considering also...

Also is there opportunity to get other maps from the internet with these units or are you restricted on purchasing maps from tomtom when you go these stand alone units? Also does the same apply to POI?

    thanks guys

Why don't you start by checking the Tomtom website to see what is available and what features are built into the devices.
If you know what you like do a price check (e.g. Google : Tomtomxxxxx price compare).
I'm happy with my Go730 , other like their ONE or GO940 - so what would you like to hear??
Ask someone in a restaurant what dinner he would recommend and you get different answer from everyone.

You can have Tomtom on a dedicated Tomtom unit , Tomtom on a Symbian phone , Tomtom on a windows smart phone or Tomtom on a PDA.

Tomtom POI's and Camera files can be found for free at

As far as I know ( without owning one ) you cant install other GPS software on a dedicated Tomtom unit. There are a lot of cheap generic GPS units from places like Deal Extreme ( ) that you can install any software you want on and have other features like Bluetooth and FM Transmitter. Obviously with anything you buy , you would have to take warranty in to consideration.
