Default ASUS F5R Laptop with short battery life

I have an asus f5r with terrible battery life. The laptop is ~ 1 year old and the life of the battery is down to <5 minutes from a fully charged state. I ensured when the laptop was new to make sure that the battery was fully discharged/recharged as per recomendation so I don't believe there was anything wrong done here. I've read elsewhere that this is a common problem with various asus model laptops and was wandering what can be done to rectify the problem?

Its common with all laptops and is due to our friends over in Asia producing poor quality products. Check your warranty and get it replaced.

I completely remove my battery from my laptop when i'm not using it to get maximum life. Its the only way unfortunately.

No, the battery is not dead - it has something to do with the power management of the computer.

arh yes that too,I can't remember if the f5r power controller is independent of the mainboard. Most aren't.

I have an ASUS R103B Zenbook(battery built in) and says plugged in charging 0% and never charges - but will only run with the charger connected. Does anyyone have a solution ?

    1) Checklist: Is there a newer bios: No - I think ASUS are lazy as I see heaps of windows 8.1 problems . If the OS upgrade breaks the drivers then the battery is useless - how stupid is that?
    2) Enter DOS then issue powercfg /batteryreport. View report . Mine is 11.3 volts and 310 cycles.
    3) You can go into devices and delete the battery and charger drivers (stupid). Might work.
    4) Seems a genuine charger. If you have a Dell, they have a 3rd wire - that will only charge with an original Dell power supply.

I suspect an HP like problem, where the 'smart chip' in the battery has gone on strike - Just like HP's and Epson's print cartridges that had an expiry date and artificial empty level. But with the battery there is no obscure override - or is there?
