Default Tomtom 7.9 dump for Win CE 4.2

    Guys,

I tried everything following the instructions on this forum to get TomTom 7.9 working on Win CE 4.2 PNA but I've failed.

Either the maps are not working or I get "not enough memory error"

Can someone please upload working files from your PNA ?

    Thanks in advance

Every PNA is different and a working copy from another device won't work on device.
Which map version did you try?
Only the 835.2420 will work on a PDA - the 2419 is for Tomtom PNA only.
If nothing works out you should try other software like IGO or Garmin.

I've used 835.2420. Its works with win CE 5 but no luck with CE 4.2.

Whats the latest versions of Garmin and IGO software and maps are compatible with win CE 4.2 ?

    Downunder35m,... you the MAN!!

After about 5 weeks of trying to get TT to work on a Chinese car dvd/gps system i bought off fleabay, i was about to give up until perseverance has taken me to this website.

I've managed to follow your instructions far enough to get it working on windows CE 6.0. Its currently running on app 7.45 with map 7.20. Just to get to this stage, I'm over the moon.

I will soon try to get the app to run 7.910 and hopefully the 8.35 maps...

Is there a difference between Windows CE and Windows Mobile 6.1? I've managed to install TT on my WM HTC Touch HD without any dramas at all... but when it came to installing it on this Win CE 6.0 device, it just wont get past "Map Not Found" errors...

Anyway, I now have a working GPS thanks to some very good and well written instructions

    Cheers!!

EDIT: just tried map 8.35.2420 with app 7.45.18?? and it didn't work... it's late, so it's possible i didn't do something right. will have ago again tomorrow night.

Ce and WM are not compatible...
If you had it working with the 7.2 map you should be able to use the same mapfolder to get it working - just delete all files in it and put the files for the 835.2420 in it.
You might have to start from the beginning of the tutorial to get a working mapsettings.cfg

    hmmmm....

trying to upgrade to run the latest maps 835.2420 with app 7.910.9185, but after about 5 seconds into the program, it crashes with a "not enough memory" error message...

when i downgrade back to map 720.18??, it runs fine....

i'm happy that I can get it running at all,... but it would be sweet to have the latest maps as the area i am in is new housing establishment and not all the roads are there.

    any advice?

fyi, i have a wince 6.0 device with 64mb ram running TT on a 2gb SD card.

As I said before : only thing I could think of is to reinstall the Tomtom programm and start from scratch -it might just be that some older (related to the 7.20 map) files cause the problems.
Usually the 2420 map should work just fine with the 7.9 Tomtom version.

did what you suggested downunder35m... formatted SD, re-install 7.91 app, created dct file for map 8.35... and hey guess what? no more "not enough memory" messages!!!

    BUT.... wait there's more!

The screen would lock up/freeze after about 1-2 minutes of navigating....??? if I tap the screen, then tap DONE again, the maps update and tracks where i am.... but after 1-2 minutes it would freeze again...

So it's not a s/w crash/freeze... but something to do with the maps no redrawing or my position is not getting updated...

not sure where to start with this one.... already tried reformatting and re-installing but still same problem... even did it on a different SD card too...

If you are using my map-backup :
Try to disable the POI's in your menu - it is possible that your device can't handel hundreds of POI's in the map.
If you can't disable them ,delete the .ov2 and .bmp files that you don't need from the map folder.

--Was only a guess ,so I hope this will finally solve your problem --

I will try removing the POI's tip... thanks

i just went out for a drive just then and discovered something interesting...
when i switch to see what the gps signal was doing... the screen where it shows how many satellites its locked to and their strength.... in the top right hand corner there is UTC clock... it would tick over normally... then all of sudden, it would stop ticking...

the signal strength is very high and locked on all satellite channels except 2 of them....

then when i tap the screen, the UTC clock would tick over again...

    1) could be my gps receiver playing up (using the NMEA gps at 4800 baud)
    2) wince 6.0 and something to do with power saving (as there is a battery symbol flashing in the bottom right hand corner)
    3) something to do with TT 7.910... and wince 6.0

I''m thinking it could be a power saving thing... not sure how to go about getting into the wince OS to make the changes....

You can use mort script to disabvle the power saving features and start Tomtom.
But I don't have a device to test that ,so you would have to do a Google search for the download of mort script.
Maybe this can give you a head start :
Hi, i solved the freezing problem by the following script in mscr file:
RegWriteString("HKLM", "SystemExplorerShell Folders", "My Documents", "Storage Card")
    RegWriteDWord("HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeo uts" , "ACUserIdle", "00000000")
    RegWriteDWord("HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeo uts" , "ACSystemIdle", "00000000")
    RegWriteDWord("HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeo uts" , "ACSuspend", "00000000")
    RegWriteDWord("HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeo uts" , "BattUserIdle", "00000000")
    RegWriteDWord("HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeo uts" , "BattSystemIdle", "00000000")
    RegWriteDWord("HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeo uts" , "BattSuspend", "00000000")
    RegWriteDWord("HKLM", "SystemCurrentControlSetControlPowerTimeo uts" , "BattSuspend", "00000000")

ok, i see what's going on...

will give that a go first...

btw... is it possible that the "\" has been left-out in the above script?

well... im about to give up... on TT

TT would work for a little while, then it would freeze... not a lock up or anything like that... the apps just stops. If I tap the screen, and tap DONE to get back,... all is good again.

Have tried both apps version 7.45 and 7.91 with various maps (from 7.20 to 8.35) but no joy either. I'm bouncing around with the lock up/freeze, invalid map or not enough memory problems...

I've put TT on hold now and changed over to using iGO8. So far i've managed to get it working flawlessly. This just confirms that my hardware (ie Wince 6.0 with the GPS I have) is capable of sat nav... so it's not a hardware fault.

imo iGO8 is not as good TT, so I really really want to get TT working...

BTW, what does TTN7BOTT.exe actually do?

    Thanks Downunder35m.
Do you have any updates? Such as, working map version, Navcore and keygen.
As I only have a WinCE4.2 PNA, I am more interested on this post.
On #4 Jards88 said 835.2420 could be worked.

The 2420 maps I uploaded with the POI's are working fine on a PDA - you might need to disable most POI's to show up on the map and only use them to navigate to a POI.
The more POI'S are visible on the map the more free RAM you need.
There is already thread with the lates KEYGENS and tools - just search for the threads I started.

Thanks Downunder35m. At what point should I install the 2420 maps, at #4 to replace the maps v830.2290 or after #16?
I assume to use the lates KEYGENS and tools with your original Naviagtor.rar

You should replace the map right from the beginning when it is first mentioned.
The reason is that you have to create the "mapsettings.cfg" and for it you nedd the map that is running on the device when you are finnished.
So it would be of little use to do everything with the old 830 map and just replace the map at the end ,because most likely you will end up with an "out of memory" error....
