Default 3 screens can this be done

ok so here is the setup i have

asus main board with a duel DVI output video card and two 22"screens one via DVI & the other VIA VGA.

What i want to do is add a 30" screen @ 2560x1600 (i know this will need two DVI from the card) and have one 22" screen via DVI @1680x1050 and the other 22" screen via DVI-VGA @ 1024x768 using a adapter lead. Will this give me a double extended desktop meaning i can move to the right/left through all three screens preferably with the 30" in the middle as main desktop.

So the next question is what Graphics card will do this as the specs for a lot of quad cards don't actually tell me if this config will run?

Just to understand, your current machine has dual DVI outputs on the MB itself?

For the graphics card part does your MB have SLI or Xfire compatibility (slots for two gfx cards). I know if you connect two cards in there run them independantly (Not in SLI or Xfire mode) you can have up two four screens running.

I was pretty sure the max was about 10-12. That was the rumour when I was doing tech support at Datacom in 2004 though.

Just let mey fingers do the googling and the gereral view was between 10 an d 16 monitors. I run 2 here but would love to have 3 or 4. I find it hard to work from only one monitor these days!

If I have understood you correctly you want to add the third screen using a "y" adapter, yeah? If thats what you mean then the answer is you can add the third monitor but it will be an exact copy of the other screen. To have three independent screens you need three outputs so that means another gpu. Your mobo does have 3 pcie slots so you coul run 6 screens if you wanted to but that would mean running 3 graphics cards.

We run quad head Matrox cards here and have a few machines that run 2 with no issues. Been dong that for years. The screens are up to 1600x1200. I haven't tried any wide screens so unsure if supported but that day is drawing closer.
