By chance have you unplugged the unit, waited a period, then plugged it back in? Mildly different to the standby action.
Hi all,
My SelecTV UEC DSD990 box seems to have died. It's got an orange LED lit up, the red LED is blinking, and the front panel is displaying "bE1" or "bEl". This happened after I went away for the weekend and powered everything down.
It has done this a couple of times in the past, but it always rectified itself after I pressed the standby button a couple of times. Now it won't come back at all.
Anyone know what that message means, and how I can fix it?
I'm pretty sure the box is out of warranty now (had it for about 14 months now, I doubt their warranties are over 12 months).
Thanks in advance...

Yeah, tried that too. Same result; it shows "DL" on the screen as it boots up (I assume this is it downloading the firmware into memory) and then after a couple of moments, it's "bE1" again.
Pressing the two leftmost buttons to force a reset has no effect, either.
Cheers for the tip, though.
Sounds like the power supply has finally died. Is it on a separate board as I'm not familiar with the insides of a UEC...
Hopefully just replacing the electrolytic capacitors will bring it back to life just like a Humax .
The error appears to be bE1. All i can find on it is:
The BE1 error is a hardware error suggesting corrupt flash. This could be caused by power surges, dips and failures. Resetting the decoder can resolve the error if only the data in the flash memory is corrupt. If the memory itself has become the problem then you will need to replace the decoder.
The most common suggestion, is to unplug it from the wall for 4 hours (I would suggest overnight) and plug it back in. This clears the memory and reloads the info from the firmware? If this doesn't work, it has to go to a repair shop for the firmware to be reloaded...
does the select UEC have a reset to default settings available to hopefully restore the firmware?
Thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately, still no go, after being off all night.
If I remember rightly, the box had a reset to default from one of its menus, but of course, I'd have to get it booting up first
The manual is next to useless, no hints in there. I suspect if there is a firmware reset, I'd have to open it up to see. I guess that will be a job for the coming weekend...
To reset it try pushing the buttons on the front that are the " STANDBY and TV/RADIO " buttons on the front together and this resets the box try this and see how you go
My box is a UEC 990 but a UBI one this should still work on a SelecTV box though

does select have any firmware upgrades/mods available over the air? If so, then there is a combination of front button presses on all UEC 6, 7 and 9 series that forces the stb to upgrade, but for the life of me I cant remember what they are, they used to be listed here b4 the crash. Ring select and ask them to make the firmware available over the air so u can attempt to fix your box.
Found the force an update sequence for UECs (only works if there is an over the air upgrade available)
Press Standby-TV/Radio
Press Standby
Press Channel Up
Press Channel Down
Press Standby
Jason_dinAlt, that's awesome!

Jeepers. That's quite a sequence. Nice info there Jason_d.
Can the SELECTV box be updated while being on Optus d2 and vice versa - UBI box being on pas8? Does the card need to be in the slot?
Once a UEC STB gets BE1, it will happen a couple more times and eventually just die.
Ok, did it. Upgrade screen popps up but I think because it doesn't find the right signal it displays errors (on the screen and display) then goes back to bEi and the screen goes back to black ( Would it be because it was not tuned to current UBI's transponders before it stuffed up? Is there any way to do the upgrade over a cable from a PC? Anyone knows where to find such a firmware? Tks
Not to dig up an old thread (but it is related to this) but for a laugh I plugged in the parents' old UBI UEC box, and saw this error. It never went into allowing me to access menus.
The button combo works, but obviously the software cannot be found, so the error returns. I wonder has plugging this in and pointing it to IntelSat19 bricked it? Maybe this already happened a while ago....still found it interesting.
