OK...to clarify...
- C2k chip into C1K board does default all programming
- C1K into C2K board does default all programming
- Uesr 000 master code cannot default user 001 installer code but it can be programmed to allow it to disable user 001
- User 001 installer can default user 000 master by entering user programming, select user 000 to program <<<<ON will default master code to 01
Tested all of the above to make sure before posting.
Soory ReDoZ..didn't try the reverse chip and power up on DC only method (allergic to blue smoke) maybe some with a spare chip or two would be able to confirm.

I have reversed the chip about 4 times over the years with good results and no smoke. Might of just of been lucky. Have heard of others frying the chip doing this but also heard lots that have had no ill effects. I have always explained the risks to the client and the choice has been theirs to make.
I've reversed the chip on numerous occasions and got away with it. I know it's not the correct way to do it but sometimes it's the most suitable way at the time. I've advise clients that I can try the reverse chip method but won't be responsible for any damage. If they accepts off I go. Been lucky so far I guess. Mind you, I got CSD to default a chip last week and they f**cked it.
Yep!! Having now gone through this process again and read the various replies, I remember having done the chip reverse myself in the past and have had both results (fried chip and not fried chip), I was never able to find out why it worked sometimes and not others.
If/when I ever asked Security merchants tech support they would always say..dont do it..but then they would..wouldnt they (no money in having techs do it themselves).
BTW ReDoZ,
Just out of curiosity, what is the bit of tech you have that can default the 001 user code only? is it something that can be made (presumably originally made by someone somewhere). Is it some kind of a default chip?
RedOz - if you have a C2K debug GAL I wouldn't go advertising it in a public forum.
Intellectual property rights etc. are expensive things to defend in court.
I heard the bloke who owns the rights to that property once spent $50K chasing $2K just to prove a point.
You might be surprised who looks in here on the odd occasion.

Hey guys,
I had exactly the same issue, (no access to programming menu) on a 2000 panel and following the advice on this thread have just successfully reset the installer code. 01
following the advice I
* powered down the panel
* remove the battery leads
* waited a couple of minutes for any capacitance to discharge
* sprayed the pins on the dallas SRAM chip with a very light coat of servisol clean and lube
* removed the chip
* straightened the pins - as they are very light the did get bent on extraction- with a square block of material between them and a ruler to dress them flat
* reversed the chip and inserted back into the board
* momentarily supplied power to the board from the disconnected battery
* removed the chip and dressed the pins again
* re installed the chip in it's correct orientation
* powered up and was greeted with the message ' hello user 01 '
All the programming remains in the memory and the installer code is the only thing that has been changed.
I think the critical thing is the momentary power up from the battery.
thanks to all who contributed to this thread - I most probably would have had a less successful result without you
Cheers - Gervallio
Correction the chip has actually lost all programming- so it's a factory reset. Sorry if that was misleading, but alls well - just have to start from scratch !
Reversing the chip would wipe the memory, merchants had a special chip/ panel set up that would default the installer.
