I have another box in another room the same so I took it over and used the same cable and ofcourse the same lnbf and it worked only this other box does not pickup the satelite signal and my guess is the tuner is blown inside the unit.

i even cleaned the card sim chip with alcohol and ried again nothing happened...

it has to be the box and foxtel people are comming to pick it up tomorrow but they say if its not faulty they charge us money...but in my case it has to be the box...
    You hope!

If the dish has a Dual lnb and a cable to each STB and one STB wont work on either cable and the other one does, the only other option would be if the LNB power was turned off in that STB or its defective.
If you only have 2 STB's I dont think they install a multiswitch do they?
But even if there is one, if one STB works in either room that would indicate to me its the STB thats crook.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

    Hi All,

Finally a topic i know something about here!

The cutout between 10:30 and 11:30 am is specific to solar interference. it will happen twice a year, once before the winter solstice and once after the winter solstice (in this part of the world).

It's called "Solar Washout" and affects all satellites which at some point in the year have the sun cross behind them. At this point, the noise floor of the signal you are trying to receive will be significantly more powerful than the tiny satellite's transmitter can put out.

As this happens, depending on how well you dish is aligned, it will cut the signal to your box for anywhere between 10 and 25 minutes. The time and duration are directly related to your location on the earth as well.

From work with redundant ground transciever stations in melbourne and brisbane, the occurrences are about 4 days apart and start 20 minutes later in bne when they do happen.

The only thing you can do is wait it out, it usually only lasts a couple weeks.

Just to add further clarification, if the sun is particularly active it can play up outside the normal window where it's behind the satellite (from your perspective).
