You could try ZapMessenger to remove Messenger totally, then re-install.
But 320 x 200 sounds like a Webcam thing. Did it only happen after installing the Webcam? And have you installed the latest drivers etc. for the Webcam?
Hi all,
Got a strange problem with Windows Live messenger. Whenever it starts, it resets the video display to 320 x 200, 8 bits colour! (didn't even know windows would support that resolution!)
I've tried add/remove programs to remove it and reinstalled with the latest version from the 'net, but the problem remains. I suspect either a corrupt config file that isn't being removed by uninstalling, or perhaps some wierd interaction with the webcam (still does it with the webcam unplugged, software associated with the Logitec webcam isn't all that easy to disable)
Anyone with a suggestion or two?

Thanks (again!) auto, I'll give that a go. The problem started when updating from version 8 to the very latest (12?). Webcam update came through the other day - yee gads 48 Mb of update! I remember doing computer science at college and we were assessed on correctly implementing the solution required first, and then speed and memory/resources used second. Learnt to write tight, fast code back in my teens. Far cry from todays ultra-bloat-ware.
Yeh, good chance it is the upgrade, you could also try going back to a restore point before the upgrade.
48 Meg is probably a load of crap you don't actually want or need anyway. P*sses me off the way the software companies think you need all the rubbish they include..just give me the friggin minimum to make it work !!
I used to work on Business systems that had 32K of core memory, and these were multiuser systems running financials etc.
Now that was lean code....
