hi.
how do you tell if you have line of sight to the optus c1/d1/i8 satellites
what can you use and can you get software for the computers or mobiles to know what obstructions there are before you put a dish up
Look Here -> |
You can use Gorbtrack.

You could look at your neighbours Foxtel Pay TV dish,
your Dish will have to point in about the same direction,
& Have a relatively good view of the Sky in front above the dish,
Choose a good location with this in mind,
or you could set up a dish temporarily (on a tripod, or something) to test the signal ?
Good Luck

As a general Rule look at other installed Satellite Dishes,
Like Foxtel Pay TV dishes (on Optus C1 & now D3, same position)
Look at their view of the Sky, (& direction they are facing)
(& if you spot a foxtel Dish & then see another dish nearby pointing in a different direction, you may be able to make a guess what satellite the other dish is on also),
& if they have been there a while, you can usually say they must be getting pictures,
& use this as a guide as to where is the best place to install your Dish,
Disclaimer: I have seen some installations that I would not copy, so use some common sense too
