repacking 1800 nimh battery pack whats the best battery to use.

hi everyone, i have a item that needs the battery pack replaced or repacked. im looking at a higher amp rate etc but the older battery pack requires 3.2 volts dc at 2.3amps to charge it. ,im wondering is it hard to repack a battery pack with 7 to 8 2900nimh aa batterys ive never repacked nothing like this but the original pack is only 1800nimh ,i was wondering what are the best brand of battery to use. id be looking at the ones with the solder tabs on them im asking a friend to do it ,thanks hamguy2 nsw
