    Default Word 2007 Number Referencing

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem with the automatic numbering system on word.
I want my headings hierarchy to go like this.
    1. Heading One
    ________1.1 Sub Heading One
    ___________1.1.1 Low Heading One
    ___________1.1.2 Low Heading
    ________1.2 Sub Heading Two
    ___________1.2.1 Low Heading Three

etc etc if you get my drift.
Although i need this be automatic as changes will be made often adding in sections and altering them. As this will be a big document i do not want to have to go back and manually change all the number reference proceeding the change.

My problem is in word you are unable to alter the heading hierarchy to all numbers. The default is this
    1.
    ____a.
    ________ i.
    ____________1.
    ________________ a.
    _____________________i.

Is there a way i can make my own numbering system automatic?
Ive tried creating a custom hierarchy but the automatic number only automatically changes the current level. i.e. it will only change the "3" in 2.2.3 never the numbers preceding it.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

I spent fuking ages recently before I'd had enough and gone back to a previous template - I think you can change the style to be prior2007 also.

You're supposed to be able to,.. but for the life of me it shouldn't have been so difficult. Maybe I was doing something obviously wrong - dunno. I'd always get it half going, but the numbering would reset when I didn't want it to,.. and making the changes to 'continue from previous' seemed to not be taking, so I gave up.

But going back to pre2007 it all just worked so I left it at that.

And how do i set it back to Pre07?
Ive had a look around in "word Options"
But the only thing i can find is "Set this document out as if it were in" ... then a list of options but that doesn't seem to do it.
Only option to actually use the old office word?

Sorry dude, I may have steered you down the wrong path. Guess it forced me to sort it out proper also. Forget all that other 2003 crap,.. last time for me I ended up basing a template on a working 2003 doco I had.

In Word2007 the setting that controls this is in multilevel list. Home->button next to numbered list as per image below. And then click on the numbered list you want.
