Smile help with dm600 connection to internet

    Hi
I wondering if you could help me with the following.
Iam trying to connect my db 600 to the internet.
The db is connected to my laptop via a crossover cable.
My laptop accesses the internet via wifi from a d-link router i have in bedroom. Also there is a PC attached to the router with an ethernet cable for its internet connection in the bedroom .I cannot move the db in the bedroom with the PC and the router because the LNB plug is in the living room and it is connected to the TV (in another corner in the living room) via wireless transmitter /receiver 5.8GHz .
Someone suggested to attach a wireless access point at the back of db
so it can connect to the internet via the router. If this is the case what access point should i use (client, bridge etc.)
Also for transferring images from lap top to db via null cable my laptop (dell latitude 4300) doesn't have a male socket so the female-female connection cannot be obtained.
Can you pls give me your suggestions .
    thank you

    Default DM600 connection

The DM (i believe) wont connect to the internet through your lappy via a xover cable. You can add a wireless router in 'repeater' mode (some cheaper ones dont have this option) to your system as if it were extending your local network to an out-building etc. use this router to connect the DM into the system.... as for the serial cable... you could try a 'usb to serial' adaptor to convert your existing cable to usb... Jaycar or DSE should keep these.
    upgrading to Premium soon LOL

me finks you are not refering to a cat 5 crossover network cable. It would be possible to transfer files to your dreambox with this method. Also you should be about to connect to the internet via this method. You need to enable internet connection sharing in the properties of your wireless connection.
The easiest way is to get an access point that works in client mode.

Make sure that your laptop ethernet network address & the dm are on a different subnet to your wireless network. You also need to set the gateway in your dm to the ethernet address of the laptop.

Like LeroyPetrol said the Laptop as a gateway will work.

As long as you have the dreambox connected by way of an ethernet crossover cable then you can use the Laptop as a wireless gateway for the dreambox.

You simply change the Laptops network wireless adapters properties to allow other users to share the wireless connection, On the dreambox you really don't have to do much because by default windows will act as the DHCP server for the Dreambox & will give the dreambox it's IP setting.

    cheers
