Is it possible to remove the DVD burner and replace it with another ?
I have a LiteOn DVD/HDD recorder that the DVD died and I bought a LiteOn brand DVD burner, took it out of the case and inserted it into the machine.
The big problem apart from some hacking and cutting to make it fit was I lost the 'Region Free' capabilty and it will now only record to +R discs.
This was reported in the site I used for details on 'How To'.
Everything else works as before.
Apparently this particular model was noted for this failure of the DVD burner and loss of 'Region Free' playback.
I cant remember if VideoHelp site was the one I used for this Info.
videohelp.com, lots of info on near all brands of recorders etc.
If I was doing it again, I would just attach the new DVD to the outer case as is and connect the cables, they were the same ( IDE/Power) as in a standard computer.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
Brilliant Idea number 1, would it be possible to disconnect the HDD and connect it to either an enclosure to make it a 'Portable HDD' or direct to the computer by the IDE/power and make it a 'Slave' to then access the data that way ?
A friend did this to my computer to recover it from a severe crash so why not for this?
Probably not explained the best but someone should be able to advise if its possible.
