    Default Selectv lnb

    G'day guys.
Just got off the roof for the 20th time.
I have an old Fox dish on the roof with and a Strong 4658X box that I'm trying to tune into Selectv. I have the Selectv box, just thought it would be easier to find the sat with the strong box.
I got all the setting from reading through the posts but the one thing I cant find is where the lnb should be. I've seen 3, 6 and 7 o'clock so I don't know which one it is. I'm in Hopetoun WA.
I seem to be able to find C1 fairly easy but cant find Intelsat-8.
From what Ive read its 10 degrees to the right from behind the dish and a bees dick down.

The only reason I'm doing it myself is Selectv could not give me a date when there would be an installer in the area.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers Max.

    G'Day Cobber,
If you use this program, you will be able to drag the pointer to your exact location and get a ground line of sight to each Satellite.
The Skew should be about 4 O'clock for Pas8 and 3 o'clock for C1. Not a great difference in West Australia. About 40 degrees in the East.
Make sure your LNB and TP settings are correct.

Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

Thanks for that, I'll get back on the roof.
I'm in a brand new area and we aren't on that dish pointer yet.
I'll give the lnb a spin and have another go.

    Cheers Max.

    You could try.
You can scroll the map left/right and up/down as well as zoom in.
You could almost read the catalogue sticking out of your mail box.

It wont matter as long as your a few 100's of Km from that point, the numbers are pretty much the same.

Dont stress about the skew just yet, turn the dish to the east and down a little as the link shows, get a signal happening and then worry about playing with the skew to increase the reception.

It should still give you a close proximity.

I've found the alignments from dishpointer still require a bit of 'fine-tuning' anyway.

3-4 o'clock for IS8, but you'll need to adjust the LNB according to strength/quality for the highest readings.

Just checking, is that looking at the dish from the front and where the cable comes off the lnb?

    Cheers Max.

    Yes,

if all else fails, you could use a $15 - $20 satellite finder (from ebay)

    to help locate the satellite,

then set up the STB with the settings of a working Transponder on IS8,

If you are on Satellite IS8, the Signal & Quality should be both in the Green,

you also have to be careful you're not on another Satellite by mistake,

    Good Luck

I've given up for the time being.
I have put it back on C1 (I'm suprised at how easy that one is to find) and Ive plugged the Strong box in. At least we have the Optus Aurora going.
I'm on Ebay now looking for a sat finder.
    Next question.
I have another dish, if I put that on the roof and tune to I8 what will i need to use both dishes? can I run them both into the strong box with some sort of switch or will they have to go to there own boxs?

    Cheers Max.

Edit, I have a cam for another card.

    G'Day,
One of these would do, but a 4X1 would give room to add other dishes and the difference in price is infinitesimal

Where the LNB F connector is situated, looking at it from the front of the dish.

Most LNB's will have the connector at the bottom (eg: 6 o'clock) when set at 0 degrees, but some others vary, so you'll need to check which one yours is.

Maybe a simpler method to get a rough lock.

Your now on optus C1 which is looking 52 degrees magnetic east and a elevation of 35.1 degrees.

Intelsat 8 from your location is 61.8 degrees magnetic east and a elevation of 27.6 degrees.

Get a simple protractor and work out where the dish should be pointing if you rotate it 10 degrees east (towards the sunrise) and drop the dish look angle down by 7 to 8 degrees.

From this point play a little left /right / up/ down.

Your skew. On C1 it should have had the f connecter (where the cable connects) pointing at 7 to 7.30, now you want to turn it about another 5 degrees clockwise as you stand in front of the dish.

Now here is the funny part, the skew point depends on its construction as mentioned by others.
Most lnb's have the connecter pointing straight down when set on zero.

C1 from your location with a "standard" lnb is supposed to have the connector/lnb rotated 41 degrees clockwise from straight down (roughly 7 to 7.30)

Intelsat 8 is supposed to be rotated 46.8 degrees clockwise from zero (f connector straight down).

So a rotation of just 5-6 degrees clockwise should be enough to get a lock.
