    Default Austar HD

new Austar HD pricing options effective 15 Nov. It’s a bit ambiguous but my take is that you have to match the SD packages with HD packages. Not sue if I've got this right but appears that 13 HD channels can be obtained for:

$119.85 – this doesn’t include the SD Fun and Quest options.

$105.95 – this doesn’t include the SD Fun, Quest and Living options and HD UKTV which is part of the Living Option so therefore 12 HD channels under this scenario.

The works comes in at $125.95 all SD plus 13 HD.

Read fine print at the end. Some will interpret this as you only need to take the Starter Pack plus one out of the remaining SD packages plus the Mystar HD charges to be entitled to the full HD suite – this would be a good result for those who normally only view sport and movies and require HD. If this is correct, one could get 13 HD channels plus Starter Pack plus one other SD pack for $75.95

Note the basic charges have gone up ie Essentials from $39.95 to $42.00

Installation cost elements are also a bit confusing.

New Austar magazine arrived today -

Starter pack up by $2.05 a month (but does include several extra channels).
Sport option (includes one extra channel) up by 1.05 a month - Setanta up by $2.00 a month
The three general entertainment options (includes extra channels) up by a total of $1.05 a month.
Movie options (with more channels) no price increase

Or if you have "The Works" at $106.00 a month - this is an increase for all the above of $4.05 a month - plus $8 a month for Setanta if required..

Of course if you don't want the extra channels, stiff...........

However, all extra channels available for free for 2 weeks - to convince you to try them out..

Austar mag mentions there are no increases in subscriptions fees for existing customers until Feb 2010

The new 13 HD channel option will cost an extra $5 per month, plus the rental of the new HD Mystar PVR - $14.95 a month.

All in - Austar is a fair bit cheaper than Foxtel.
