Talking TOMTOM 7.910 for WINCE4.2 with Australia Map 830.2290 + Voices POI Speedcam TUTORIAL

If there are any mistakes, please PM me to let me know so that I can fix them.
Please notify me of dead links as well, I'll do my best to fix it.

for most of you, it will work the first time, however some of you will have problems,
some minor and some major. All devices are different and you will get many different types
of errors. I can't list all the issues here but I want to ask people to help each other out
and support each other if someone asks for help. I'll do my best as well.

If there are newer versions of what I uploaded here, please let me know, please dont just say
there is a newer one, please supply the link or upload it yourself. Thanks

    ************************************************** ************************************************** ****
I have been debating with myself as why the scripts, NOTE_PRJ.DLL and other procedures are
needed, and why you create a mapconfig folder and so on. I have skipped these steps and it
seems to work fine for me. Maybe I'm not educated enough to understand why they are needed ?
I dont know, all I know is that it works for me and I have done it on multiple devices for
myself and my friends, and it has not failed me. I have however done some old devices with
4.2 core PNAs and did come across that irratating error "out of memory" and also starting
up in a different language. The out of memory issue I couldn't fix on my mates PNA but it
just depends on your device, as you know, they are not all the same and unfortunatly tomtom
can't make every device happy with their software. If you get errors, try googling it, there
are LOADS of stuff out there for TT errors, or ask here.

I'm not saying my method is 100% and that it will work for everyone. All I'm saying is that
I have done it my way and it works on several devices. If my method does not work, then you
will need to go to downunder35m thread and follow his steps and read what people have said.

    ************************************************** ************************************************** ****

    THINGS TO KNOW:
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) Latest POI's and speedcams as of this date ! - credit goes to downunder35m and puca for this
    2) English voices only
    3) Australia map only
    4) I'm sure there are other ways of doing this tutorial but this is the way I know
    5) If you get errors or trouble starting the application ask here for help or Google it, because google is your friend.
    6) Some tutorials have some extra steps that I don't have, this is because I've taken the liberty of doing it for you
    7) None of my archives have passwords - I share, not keep secrets.
    8) If your using activsync for your device/phone, you will not be able to open the bif file, just copy the bif file to your Hard Drive and you can open it from there
    9) This TomTom is only for CE based devices, such as a PNA
    10) You can only have 100 different voices, so choose your favorite ones and rename them 1 to 100
    11) the meta data for this map is:

    ; Australia_830_2290
    76 EE 1B F4 91 66 FD 89 8D F1 3E 4B 6E 11 62 D3 Australia-40.meta

WHAT DEVICE DOES THIS WORK ON?
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) Any PNA that runs CE 4.2 or 5.0 core
    2) Works on my Chinese In-Car DVD/GPS system that runs a CE5.0 core
    3) Confirmed working on my mio168 running windows mobile 2003 with CE 4.2 core.
    4) I have installed this using this procedure on a few PNA's that run CE4.2 and it DID work

    WHAT TO DOWNLOAD:
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) REQUIRED - for PNA WinCE 4.2 and WinCE5.0
    2) REQUIRED - for PNA WinCE 4.2 and WinCE5.0
    3) REQUIRED - of Australia v830.2290
    4) REQUIRED -
    5) OPTIONAL - Extra
    6) OPTIONAL - for Austraila
    7) OPTIONAL - If this does not work for you, get the rest of the files and follow (Please note: my [Navigator] folder is the [TT WCE 4.2] folder, I just renamed it. So if you decide to get the rest of the files, rename my [Navigator] folder to [TT WCE 4.2] (sorry if this is confusing).

    PREPERATION:
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) OPTIONAL - Back up any previous versions of TomTom data that you may have (eg: poi's, maps, speed cams, voices etc).
    2) OPTIONAL - Uninstall/Delete any previous TomTom versions/directories.
    3) If your CE device / PDA uses a SD card for the maps and software, then you'll need a SD card reader for your computer or laptop or you can plug your device in via the USB to transfer data that way, depending on your device.
    3) REQUIRED - Have installed.

    INSTALLATION:
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) Extract [Navigator.rar] to a temp folder on your PC hard drive.
    2) Copy the [Navigator] folder to the root of your SD memory card.
    3) Extract the [Australia_830_2290.rar] and copy the folder [Australia_830_2290] to the ROOT of your MEMORY CARD
    3) On your device now run [TomTom Navigator.exe], after it has loaded, go thru the setup wizard. It will then say map needs activating. Press Voucher or do a soft reset (voucher may exit TT if there is no internet connection).
NOTE: The Navigator folder that you are running now is Version 7450, are going to upgrade it to 7.910 soon. We have to run the app once so it creates other necessary files and folders.
    4) Scroll down to the "MAP ACTIVATION" section below and follow the steps BUT USE OPTION 2, because your using application version 7450 !
    5) After you activated the map, go to the [Navigator] folder and Run [TomTom Navigator.exe] again.
    6) You will notice that the map is activated and TT is now working, BUT its version 7450, we dont want that do we ?.... NO !
    7) Exit tomtom.
    8) Extract [7910CE42.rar]
    9) Copy the new [TomTom Navigator.exe] and [data.chk] file to your [Navigator] folder and overwrite existing files.
    10) Don't start TT yet, because you have replaced it with a new version and your map will not work. Scroll back down to the map actiavation section again and this time do OPTION 1.
    11) After you have placed your new DCT file in the map folder, start TT with [TomTom Navigator.exe] - Now you should have 7.910 up and running with Australia_830_2290 map.
    12) Start configuring TT GPS settings and make sure its 7.910. To do this, press the "GPS Reception bars" on the bottom right of the main screen, and there it should say "version 7.910" press the version button and it should give you a map and app version there as well. Thats it, hopefully you want get that stupid "out of memory error" lol
    13) OPTIONAL - Extract [Voices.rar] and copy the [voices] folder to MEMORY CARD\Navigator\Voices
    14) OPTIONAL - Extract [TomTom POI with Speedcam Activated.rar] and copy the CONTENT (not the folder) to the maps folder

    MAP ACTIVATION:
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) In the [Navigator] folder of your device, you will now see a file called ttnavigator.bif (may also be in the root of

your SD card as well) open this bif file with notepad.

    2) Highlight and copy the DeviceUniqueID code.
    3) Go to your [KEYGEN] folder that you extracted earlier and find the file called DeviceID.txt. Open it
    4) Paste your DeviceUniqueID code in there and save it.

    5) Run the file in the KEYGEN folder called [RunMeforDCT.cmd] and select option 1.

    6) In the Next screen, select option 1 again.

    7) The next screen SHOULD say "Keygen says OK" Press any key to exit the keygen (see picture)

    8) Click [insert_meta_from_Map_here] folder in your [KEYGEN] directory, you will now see Australia-40.meta.dct file that

the keygen created, this is your activation key/file.

    9) Copy that [Australia-40.meta.dct] into the map folder of your device.
    10) Start TomTom again and it should now be registered and working

    That is it ! Enjoy

Hi, I must be missing something, I've extracted and loaded the Navigator and Australia_830_2290 folders to the root of the SD card. The program loads ok but tells me 'No Maps Found', should I be placing the map folder in the root of the SD card or only the contents?
    Thanks.

No, I'm following the instructions and after the program loaded I went through the set up, but I didn't get the message about activating the map, just " no maps found". So, if the map is already in the SD card shouldn't I have gotten the activation message? Or do I ignore the fact that it hasen't been found and try to activate it regardless?
    Thanks.

You need an activated map (check for the .dct file in the map folder) and the map flder in the right spot.
That could mean puuting the map folder in the root of your device ,in the folder of your Tomtom installation or into the folder "My Documents".

For the activation of the map : make sure to use the right device code....

No go. I've tried everything, even copied the bif file to the root of the SD card, made a 'My Documents" folder and put the map folder in there, all to no avail, I just get the "No Maps Found" message. I have activated the map correctly and the .dct file is in the map folder. Might try again after I've calmed down tomorrow (lol).
Thanks for your help anyway, cheers.

Umm i remember getting the no map found error a while ago, but for the life of me i don't know how i fixed it..... if my memory serves me correctly, i was not using the correct map version (when i was a noob) and it was not detecting the map... are you using the files that i supplied ? and what device are you using ?

Thanks, after I went to bed I thought about it and wondered if the map version was the problem. I am using the files downloaded from the links in this thread, my device is a Chinese pna running WinCE Net 5.0 Core.
The meta.txt I assume is what's in the downloads?
    I'll try again.
    Thanks.

I upgraded to version 7.910 and it clearly shows in the .bif file, but I still get the no map error.
Isn't the meta.txt already provided in the crack, or is it the one you have given the link for? (link temporarily unavailable)
Should I try the latest map rather than the one in the tutorial?

This is what I have on the SD card:
    Australia_830_2290 folder
    Navigator folder
GpsRunfile.txt (same as shell.ini in other devices)
    meta.txt

I know in some other devices the map is in a 'My Documents' folder, but i tried that and it made no difference.
So, I'm using the correct map and the only problem could be the meta.txt, where is it supposed to reside?

    Thanks.

I think you have some problems with the basics of installing and "cracking" Tomtom stuff
    1. the map is old ,the 835.2420 is current and in abaout 3 weeks we should have the new 840 maps.
    2. the folder for the map is getting important as soon as your Tomtom software works fine.
    3. the meta.txt contains the blowfish codes to activate the maps and speed cams - it has to be inside the folder of the keygen you use.
    4. I suggest you download the new Easyusetool Frontend (search for the threads I started) and follow the instructions for PDA users. Maybe you are able to generate acorrect meta.dct file for your map with it and after that is only a question of finding the right spot for the map.
I assume the files for the map are in folder called "Australia" and not in a sub folder or a folder with "special characters" like "Australia 2290+POI" ?
You can't use the space or the plus sign in folder names - only letters and numbers!

suptob, you are doing everything correct. the files I supplied (map and navigator) are all compatible with each other... the meta.txt that i just posted is just an updated one for the newer map (map build 2420) - sorry i should have mentioned that...
the original meta should work, coz your using 2290 map, which is australia40.mata
but if you use the newer map 2420, you have to use the new meta.txt that i just supplied.

you could try doing downunder35m's tutorial, that may work for you..

I'm also using a Chinese pna running WinCE Net 5.0 Core (car dvd/gps)

downunder, this has happened to me before and i was just thinking, regardless of whether the map is activated or not, he should still see the map it the list. i think there may be a file corrupted or missing and tomtom can't seem to detect the file/s ....

suptob, i have my map in a folder called "Australia_835_2420" in the root of my SD

try deleting navigator folder and re-copy it from the rar file again - maybe delete the map and recopy as well ----- also make sure there is no DCT file in the map folder, if there is, just delete it, then re-do the activation process...

Ok, I'm going to start from the beginning, I will download all the files again and try again. I have previously installed TomTom on my HP4700 PDA and also other PNA's and mobile phones, but these were the earlier versions and I had no trouble at all with the maps.
So, does it matter if the map folder is "Australia_830_2290" or should it be renamed to just "Australia"?
Also, in the 'insert_meta_from_Map_here' folder how many files should be in there, and where do they come from? I think this is where my problem lies.
Thanks for both your help so far.

Well I can't get it going.....the correct.dct file is in the map folder the .bif file is correct and no matter what I try I still can't get the map file to be recognised. I'll try some of the other GPS forums to see if they have the solution and if not, use IGO8 which works ok on this unit. I might try TT on another PNA to see if it works there.
Thanks for all your help, cheers.
