Default port forwarding on direct modem connection

Is it necessary to port forward a Dreambox acting as a server if its directly connected to a modem (not going through a router) ?

Wouldn't have thought so,.. dream would be directly connected in that scenario and fully exposed.

If your box is getting a public ip (usually the case OPTUS CABLE MODEMS) then no need to configure anything.

If u have ADSL then ur modem is routing aswell. So set ur box with a static IP and configure your modem to port forward to the private ip of the box. If u get stuck, open up ur modem admin page, go to DMZ and enable it.
