Default Buying Blu-Ray Movies From Amazon USA

    Hi there,
I'd like to know if many people buy Blu-Ray titles from the Amazon USA site and whether they work in Australian Blu-Ray Players?

Whilst the reviews state the 'DVD Region Code" for these Blu Rays they do not state the Blu-Ray country 'Letter' etc?

By and large do the vast majority of these play in unmodded players in Oz?
    Regards

It's mostly Fox titles that implement region coding - for some reason Twentieth Century Fox don't mind infringing on our Australian legal right to import titles for personal use. Just to add fuel to the fire it's not just pricing that's insulting, but that some of these protected titles haven't even been released in Australia over a year later.

This website will give you a good idea which Blu-rays are region free, though they are sometimes a little slow to list titles so for upcoming/latest release discs you may have to instead do a bunch of Google searches:

Region free discs will obviously play just find in Australian players. A good half of my Blu-ray collection from Amazon US.

    Hope this helps,

    Chris

Cool blueray region vs hd dvd

thats the only thing wrong with blueray its region some of the players are even locked to region 4 on normal dvd. ive had a few people ive modded theres to play region 1 through to 6 ,also some players you can unlock some are as simple as i sequence in the remote control or theres a mod chip you can buy its a kit alot seem to be region abc after the mods done .,if you want region free hd dvd is another option the players are alot cheaper to buy and there region free ok ,im told onm a few sites hd dvd is making a come back especially in asia etc ,hope this helps thx hamguy2 nsw

Default DVD and blu ray have different region locks

DVD have six region codes and US titles will not play in Australian DVD players with region 4 lock. How ever there are plenty of hacks and codes and procedures posted over the internet to change your DVD player to region 9 which will play all disks from any region including the US. These hacks are simple remote control codes that you enter and it turns your dvd player to a region free player, does not require any hardware, bios or mod chips.

Blu rays are a different story. There are 3 region codes, A, B and C. however the studios have the option to make their content region free, which will play on any player. These disks will have ABC written on them so they will play in a player locked to any region. A lot of the US titles have region A and some are region free. Australian Blu ray players will have region B locked and will not play the region A titles but will play the region free titles. so Check the region information when you buy.

As an alternative you can buy from amazon UK which will have region B titles and Region free titles, We are in the same region as UK.

There are no software hacks or remote codes that will make your blu ray region free. There are mod chips for panasonic and sony but they are expensive and you can buy yourself a cheap Region free blu ray player for that money and get a bit of change as well.

It might be useful to know that Pioneer Blu-ray Disk Players are region free so apart from getting a better quality player you get the region free as a bonus.

Are all or only some Pioneer Blu-ray players region Free?
If not all, could you advise of the models that are 'Free' please?

    Evening Guys,

Here's an excellent site which tells what titles have gotten released where and what coding the movie has. Personally I get blurays from amazon uk which are region b same as us and they are quite good for price.

You are in India. Perhaps they dont make them region free for the indian market but do for the australian market.

I bought a Blu-Ray player that specificaly states it is NOT region free for either DVD or Blu-Ray but Videohelp told me different.
I found it is set by default to Region Free but there is no such option for Blu-Ray so if I get any other codes for Blu-ray, I have to change the Region setting to suit the disk.
Do a search of Videohelp.com for the make and model and see what it brings up.

Of course , anybody can buy from a local store . But there are somethings that have gone out of stock in local are or are not produced any more . Then , only Amazon is the best option to get anything I want .
