You make no mention of a model number or any need for upgrading, and it is your first post.
Support for ageing TVs has understandably diminished. TV manufacturers have no ongoing revenue stream once the product is sold. To expect endless support is a false hope.

In this new location, on any Channel 9 broadcasts (9, 9HD, Gem, Go), after about 10 seconds the TV restarts itself. All the other channels work OK.

The software version is probably the same since I got the TV back in 2007. The version number is 3.06.00

It looks like LG do not have any software updates for these old TVs available anymore.

Can anyone assist in providing any updates to the software for this model TV.

    Thanks again for your time.
Hi, you can try calling LG Recall line on 1800506154.
I had the same model, with the same problem. They sent someone to upgrade my firmware from 3.05 to 3.28 and the problem was fixed. Please note however that this model cannot run the HD channels like 13, 70 and 90. It will only provide audio only on these channels.

    Good luck.

FalconGood hasn't visited the site since he made that post a year ago.

I can offer you the same advice I gave him.... contact LG.

Thanks for the response. I contacted them and they have advised me that my TV is old which can’t “decode” MPEG-4 and now a days all HD channels are coding through MPEG-4. I questioned them that why I can access other HD channel (ABC, 7, One) but they couldn't answer. Also I have an issue on SD 9 channels which are working based on older technology. They couldn't have any answer on this as well.

Some HD channels are MPEG2, which is probably what you are seeing.

If the TV tuner doesn't have the hardware necessary to decode MPEG4, then firmware won't provide it..

In your case, you probably have the choice of updating the TV, or if you are still happy with the screen, get a cheap set top box that decoded MPEG4.

Hello, i have been looking into obtaining the firmware updates for a old tv, a 32LG30D - AA.AAUQLDJ .
    in CHRISS's post (#36) in "http://www.austech.info/showthread.php/31914-LG-TV-firmware-update-software/page2",
he indicated that he had the V3.11 firmware that would be compatible with the tv i have.
And from what i have read in the forum thread, may potentially fix a issue i am having with HDMI input sometimes dropping.
I have just send a email to Lg Support asking if it was possible to get a link for the firmware, but considering the age of the tv, i doubt it will bear fruit.

I was wondering if anyone still had the firmware for such a old tv still, or knew of where i should go to obtain it.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what they're like with emails, but I would ring them and ask them to send it to your email address. Ask to speak to a technician there.

    Hi,

I'm hoping someone would be able to help me with this

The TV I have is an LG 42LG60FD and i would like to update the firmware in the hopes that it will enable the tv to decode the new hd standard that is in use now.
I have downloaded the updated firmware from the NZ site but it is a bin file and not an epk file as i was expecting.
I have had no luck with the usb method.

Would anyone be able to help me out?

    Thanks, Roy.

I've got a 10 yr old lg plasma that does just that Oceanboy. I had to change the pwr supply board caps a few yrs back and it is still going strong. Only bugbear is the audio only on the hd channels. I wasn't aware it could be fixed with a fw upgrade. Looks like I have some research to do.

I'm fairly sure it can't be solved with a FW update
    It is a hardware thing.

We may have the same model TV's.
Last time i looked, we missed out by 6months on the hardware change needed.

But by all means, have a search, yours might be different

Here is a post from another forum, this is why I'm hoping that it will work.
I've tried using the procedure that they have outlined but I couldn't get the update to be recognised by the TV.

    to update firmware on 42lg60fd
plug in the usb drive turn on power press menu goto options press no. 7 key on remote more than 7 times it will come up with firmware upgrade (expert mode) pick the firmware and press ok on remote 1 min to copy then another to instsall/upgraded it will restart on its own.
new firmware will allow you to watch mpeg4 (channel 74 "TV4ME")
this is a must update to future proofe your tv for future freeview content

note: i copied the zipped firmware file and unpacked .bin file to root of usb and to 2 folders LG_DTV and LG DTV (6 files all in the drive and 2 folders) cause i couldnt bother finding out which is the right way to do this .

When i had to do the LG Firmware warranty update
    LG provided a Loader Program
The connection was a Serial Null cable
OS for the Program was Windows XP
You had to enter the Service Menu of the LG TV and check the baud rate
Then enter the same baud rate into the Loader Program

    Connect to TV

Then select the correct FW for the TV in question and upload it.

I have never done the USB method, nor was it an option back then.

    Oceanboy,

I have seen documentation relating to the method you speak of.

It will be my last resort.

However, do you remember how to enter the service menu? Did you have the lg60 or a different model?

OK my issue is that my TV is not automatically updating the firmware from the USB so I have to look at doing something else.

Last night worked out how to get into the service and adc menus. by holding down the MENU buttons on both the remote and the TV simultaneously for 5 seconds this brings up the service menu
At this point if you press the menu button again the installation menu comes up.
Holding down both OK buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds brings up the ADC menu.
My previous reading said to press the button at the same time, not hold them in for 5 secs.

I got this far but no options for upgrading the firmware.

Then I entered the menu and highlighted the options icon and pressed the number 7 button on the remote repeatedly, quickly.
I had tired this earlier but with slower repetition to make sure the button presses registered but that was the wrong method.

This brought up the expert mode firmware update menu, This in itself is progress.

But then i was disappointed as it failed to register any update files on the USB drive.

I tried with different usb drives and different file systems and it failed to see the bin file.

And as a bonus, there is no way to get out of the menu.

I'll keep looking for some way to achieve this.

Last night i found out that to exit the expert mode firmware update menu you need to hold the MENU button on the remote (i cant confirm if the button on the tv does the same) for more than 5 seconds.
It will then exit the update menu.

Still no luck for me though.

I was lead to believe the USB update is for newer models
I am not sure at which date or model change this is.

I only ever did Serial Cable uploads
And it was very fussy about the connection
I had to drag out a very old laptop with a serial port just for the job!

It wouldn't work through the USB to Serial adaptor i had

When you did the update was it a .bin file or .epk file?
