I can remember that quite a few people asked about tracking system for the car.
To check where the son/daughter is or if the car is still in the garage
I found an interesting listing on .
Come from China ,but maybe worth looking for all that still need a GPS-Tracker.

wow thats interesting....
so this gps thing needs a sim card right ? doesn't the sim card need some data plan on it ? or can you just put a pre paid sim in it ?
Don't know ,I would say it depends on how the info is transmitted.
If it is only by SMS for the coordinates and time you would not need much.
I found that thing by accident and only remembered that here were some ppl desperately seeking these things some time ago....
You have to ask the seller about more details.

hmm interesting...my all in one GPs has a Sim card slot...not sure what its use for, the seller didnt mention anything about it...found this one in
NOYPITS
im thinking of buying it
looks interesting , though cant work out if you need a activated sim so it send out the coordinates etc and if so at what intervals as at 25cents a sms could get expensive
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
i agree... there is not much information on how it works...
If you are interested ask the seller
As far as I know from other models :
The device is activated when the car is started (or permanently connected to the battery).
The location is continually updated through the GPS.
As soon as the owner sents an activation to the device the current location (or last recorded location) is transmitted back to a website or program on the owners PC.
Most devices offer two modes :
1. : on request - the owner sends one activation and get's the last know position by SMS or GPRS over the internet to the PC.
2. : Tracking - the owner activates the tracking mode and gets ongoing updates over GPRS and Internet to the PC.
The SMS method should work everywhere you get mobile phone reception.
The GPRS method only works in areas with coverage - and it should be a stable connection. So most likely the SMS method would be the first option for rural areas.
I Europe and the US you can get pre paid SIM cards where the credit has no expirery (thanks to the Australian law the Telco's can rip us off here) ,so you put $30 on it and can forget it till you need it.
Some devices even offer a "listening" function : an built in mic transmits the sounds from the inside of your car on request - sorry no video - lol
You get cheaper versions that are about the size of a pack of smkes that you can put on the collar of your pet (or kid,granny....) - the battery lastst for several hours and you can check if your husband is really in a meeting in the office or in that nice hotel with his secretary

I'm thinking of buying (or something similar) It uses GPS / Sim card to tell you where your car is
or one is even better
