Default Just put up a large 3.6m solid dish in Auckland

Heres some pics of the large 3.6m dish ive just put up, got the dish from a pub, had to get a crane to lift it off their roof. The dish is 20 years old approx, was last used by the pub in 1994 to recieve sport before Sky came out, now Sky is used for their sport. Got it set up in my backyard with the original LNB and getting around 76% average on the C1 aussie beams using an Ultraplus F-9000HD receiver, got a universal invacom with adustable feedhorn on the way. The original lnb is a Gardiner brand lnb 11300, was originally at the 8 o clock position but had to change it to 5 o clock, to get the H transponders.

Photos of dish in my backyard, its a bit of a makeshift job as we are moving out soon, so didnt want to concrete a pole in the ground.

Signal level on Ultraplus F-9000HD receiver

Nice pickup (pun intended) and good figures from the Aussie beam off C1.

If you can't, can I have it!

Don't forget to trash the old 11300 LNB for a new 10700 should you need D3.
By the way, how much did it cost you to get a crane to move this thing?

A local pub has a dish I think a bit bigger than that but the support framework is huge.
It sits on a brick shed, whether purpose built for the dish or just was available I dont know.
Its incredible in one way how those big Dish's where considered needed for the signal levels when they were installed and now today they are achieving the same result (in OZ anyway) on a 65cm dish.
In Gareths case of case, BIG is definatly better.

dish cost me $200 NZ, I knew the dish was there as someone had told me about it, so went in one afternoon and asked the manager, they told me to call another guy and gave his number, he then gave me an email address of a third guy. so after a few calls/emails they offered it to me for $200 NZ, took about 2 weeks though to get an answer. The crane cost $165 NZ. So all up $365 NZ for the dish. Once it was on the ground I unbolted the frame, transported all that home in trailer. Came back late at night for the dish, plonked it on trailer and drove it back slowly.

Im sure with the invacom lnb it will improve the signal, im surprised im able to use the original lnb, im assuming its as old as the dish!

That's about Au$293. Not bad at all!

I apologise for being distracted when I read your post earlier. I missed the bit about the universal LNB. In any case, I'm sure it will improve reception.

Happy sat surfing. I'm sure you've just become the envy of a good lot of people here!

Just out of interest, what size dish would be needed in Australia to get the NZ beam? possible in Rockhampton?

I have heard of anecdotal evidence that a 4m dish couldn't pick up the D1 NZB beams in Oz. Maybe someone can hopefully prove me wrong.

We could put a dish in 3 times the size of that and still get nothing....Largest I have heard of was a dish @ almost 11M. didn't get any NZ beam.

I think maybe the only reason the Aussie beam is possible in NZ on large dish is because Sky use it to get some of the Foxtel channels which are then re-broadcast on Sky Digital, to name 4 of them, Nat Geo Aust/NZ, Sky News Aust, History NZ/Aust, Crime & Investigation. I know these channs come from foxtel because after 12am you can see the foxtel advertising on these channels and not Sky advertising. Sky normally overwrite the foxtel adds with their own adds but dont do this between 12am and 6am. I was watching Crime and Investigation the other night on Sky after 12am and Foxtel Box Office adds came up during the add breaks.

You may not get D3 transponders, but C1 only.

got new lnb on last night, increased signal by around 10% on H, but V is low, the best I can get so far is around 40 to 50% at the most on Aurora non NZ transponders, still watchable though no breakups on Aurora but very susceptible to rainfade because of low signal, as for the one transponder on NZ beam carrying 7 Central its at 100% constantly, should I leave this one alone? being a strong signal on a large dish could it damage my lnb or receiver?

It won't cause any damage, but being so powerful, it may be creating tuner overload, causing it to lose sensitivity with the weaker signals.

I'd love to know the actual dBuV measurement you are getting off the NZ beam with that monster.
