    Default Hard Drive DM7020 Problems

Ok im having a problem with my hard drive in my DM7020. Firstly i started of with a 300GB 3.5" HDD and it was getting way too hot so i decided to take it out and use an old laptop hdd that was sitting in a broken laptop. I know the hard drive works fine, the problem is when i connect it to the dreambox through a adapter it shows up as a hard drive but when i got to format it. It stays on the screen that says the following:

If any one can tell me if they is a way to format it using a computer or why it isn't working im all ears.

    Thanks

if you are using pli Jade3 - there were hard drive issues like that on the e1 OE boxes (600, 7020 )
either upgrade to openpli nightly builds or there is a thread on the pli site as to how to do it manually .(copy below)

note that openpli wont boot a a clone 7020 - so if you have one of those the manual format is the way to go

You can also use the df or mount commnds to see if the hard drive is there..

The following is courtesy of urbanlarsson on pli site :-

    1. Telnet to the dreambox. On windows press start -> run -> type "cmd" and then in the dosbox type "telnet [IP]", where IP is the IP address of the dreambox, the login to the box (normally it's loginname: root and password: dreambox)

    2. Partition the whole disk as one primary partition by doing the following (if you want to do it differently for some reason, read this guide: )

First run this command: fdisk /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disk
When fdisk loads you should see some text about sectors and cylinders (and maybe a warning about the size), just ignore it.
Now type the letter "n" and the press enter, then type "p" and press enter.
When it asks for the number, press "1" and enter, then just keep pressing enter, basically means choosing defaults for the rest of the options.
When you get back out to the prompt where it says "Command (m for help) on the screen, type "w" and the press enter.
Now you have a disk where the whole disk is one partition.

    3. Now we need to format the disk.
Use the command nfnovice recommended: mkfs.ext3 /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1
This time it should work just fine (this may take a while, took about 7 - 8min for my 120gig disk).

    4. Basically, you are done now, type "reboot" in the prompt, this should reboot the dreambox (don't worry if an erorr message pops up on the PC, it's just the connection that was lost).
When the dreambox starts again, you should be able to record / pause etc, the disk should work just fine...

    thanks nfnovice

I got myself a shiny new 250GB ready for the Olympics next week (that and both my 80GB's I was using are pretty much toast), and I know i've had issues formatting the drives in my 7020 before, so this is perfect.

    Here goes....
