Default Uploading Movie files into DM7000

I have an AVI movie file which I would love to watch through the DM7000. Is it possible to upload movie files into a DM7000 ??

The normal format when recording from the DM7000 is a "ts" format.

I have downloaded a recorded movie in the past burn to DVD etc but now I would like to go in the other direction.

Does anyone here have any advice or experience on this ?

yeah I think the options you have, are convert avi to ts, or stream the avi to the DM.

I dont think the DM 7000 decodes avi's. Well does not on a 7020, not sure about later models.
    might be wrong...

edit: JonC did a good job of options with streaming

you could stream it from your pc to your dreambox using VLC. I used this doc ages ago but I think there is a more efficient way using the PLi image.

I'd be going the steaming method, you can fiddle around converting ftping etc, but you can setup the VLC connection quicker, then stream anything to the dream, well almost anything

If your a bit lazy, like me, there is a little tool that makes the PC end of the stream set up easier.

do a google for Dreambox VLC Stream Server Tool and you should find it. Then you'll just need to install the client end on your dream.

My 8000 plays AVI no problems (Gemini image). If you want an easier way to upload files than FTP (which is pretty easy anyway), activate the Samba server option (on by default in some images) and you can copy it from a windows PC over the network. you have to use the media player plugin though as the standard PVR software won't play it.
