Default Telstra Satellite facility - fire system

Thought some folks maybe interested in this story

A FIRE prevention system, with 43 powerful remote-controlled water cannons and two giant tanks holding 3.6 million litres of water, has been launched to protect Telstra's satellite station in Landsdale.

The site, which cost hundreds of millions of dollars to build, was evacuated in 2001 and 2008 after being threatened by bushfires.

Telstra spokesman Tony Hancox said the new system was the larges of its kind in the world.

“There is a similar systems set up in Canada, but not on this scale. It’s definitely the biggest of its type.”

The $5 million protection system comprises 43 water cannons capable of throwing walls of water up to 60m around the perimeter, two giant tanks holding 3.6 million litres of water, high-powered video cameras with a 360 degree view of the surrounding landscape, and remote detectors capable of detecting smoke from spot fires up to 3km away.

You've shown us too many cards, Telstra. Now we know the secret location of Harold Holt's cryogenically preserved head.

Wow $5 million and 3.6 million litres of water, couldnt they just cut down some trees?

Now if I could only get ADSL 2 in my street I would be happy.

Sounds impressive though I wonder if the system can be used against intruders as well as fires!
The sea was angry that day my friends!

Sorry for the partial hijack. Both my Windows IE8 and Google browser won't display the picture in this article. Don't have problems elsewhere. When Iclick the property tab it says it is Hyper text a protocol file. Iclick display picture, but nothing. Any clues as what to do to enable the pc to open the picture?

Nice.. I wanna see it in operation..

I remember those days..twas very damm hot too & there were a few fences that suffered during the intense carnage that occured let alone some of the nice lawn areas around the dishes...

as stated, here in the state of Wait Awhile, its the only thing that keeps everything connected the the "world" as we know it.

with out ITC ( AKA OTC ) not much happens
