If you read any of the oscam forums they will tell you the opposite, the lower the card frequency the better the ecm times.
As mentioned above
Maximum frequency for this card is formally 5 Mhz, clocking it to 3.57 Mhz

Use any dual or quad 64bit processor with a bit of grunt with about 4gb of ram - compile it up yourself (a must in my book) - took my times from 800msec (32bit 4gb system) to 200msec on average and in Linux of course.

Oscam in a dm500 has a max of say 20 clients.

could you clarify something for me?
is it possible to complie and install oscam on ubuntu 32bit server?
When I download oscam as a trunk package such as oscam-svn2929-full-Distribution.tar.gz and then uncompress it I dont see a 32bit version. I have read on the oxcam site that 32bit version are temporarily not available, but then I read in this thread that people are compliling and running on 32 bit hardware.
Am I looking in the wrong place to find the oscam files?
The trunk versions I thought needed to be compliled but them im not sure as they look like binaries to me.

The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear
you can compile/make dreambox versions of oscam as many users as you like but you have to be careful of not overloading the processor LOL
when i compile mine i compile for 64 means 61 users allowed seems to run ok, its a waste for me i only have 3 log-ins to it. but i do it cause i CAN hehe.
I doubt you could get anything like that on Aussie smartcard.

I'm saying you can compile it and increase the amount of users you can have on the ppc & mips versions. YES. Im not sure why you would need to other than cause YOU CAN lol. on a dreambox you would be really lucky to run more than 4-10 connections comfortably.
Gee there is some crap in here
1. Hardware makes very little difference to ECM times... oscam uses very little CPU/memory, how do you think it works on the low powered dreamboxes? (same code). So you don't need a dual/quad core cpu with a lot of memory.
2. The ECM time is limited by the card/card reader/serial port timing.... the number of users will depend on what channels they are watching... there is no hard limit.
3. Yes you can compile it on 32bit ubuntu server, use subversion to pull the latest source down. This should work on a fresh ubuntu install, compiles in usb(smargo) and web support. Doesn't matter if you don't use smargo.

As said in post I found going from a Dell Optiplex 32bit 2ghz 4gb ram box to a 64bit 2ghz 4gb machine my ecms times dropped by 300ms, maybe the newer box has better serial/usb handling, but never the less a huge drop in ecm times.
Both running Ubuntu 9.10.
Both boxes complied oscam locally.

why is it on a linux server (P4 2gig RAM +serial port+phoenix+sub card) running oscam ECM times are between 200-280ms?
Run the same phoenix+sub card on dreambox's either ppc or mips and ECM times increase to 260-320ms+?

Yes a lot of the "ECM times is limited by the card/card reader/serial port" as you said, I cant disagree with this.
BUT...... The faster processor & RAM (to a point) of a linux PC DOES reduce your ECM times on a card.
AND if you uses a smartreader on the linux pc over a phoenix they reduce even more to the lower-mid end of what I have given as example ecm times. (This is because of the port though usb over serial)
I have done tests on 2 identical PCs picked up 2nd hand both running linux same flavour using pheonix programmer & my sub card with 3 boxes connected all on different channels.
I have increased the RAM & replaced the processor in one machine during tests and there is a difference in ECM times based on the processor & RAM. It is very slight between 10-18ms but that can be the difference between a glitch while viewing and NO glitch while viewing.
On high based machines as on a dual core machine if you increased the RAM I dont think you would see a difference.
In closing.... a linux machine with a fast processor & ample RAM does make more of a difference than you have stated.
On a side note -
FYI - The ecm times you see in the WEBIF are not what the client is seeing you add another 20-50ms. eg if you see this on WEBIF...

the clients ECM time would be more like "260ms" or there about.
its easy to test for yourself run the webif and in telnet shell run your client sending log to a file or to console you will then see what it is in WEBIF and what the client is reporting.

Not on all boxes, try on a linux based 64bit dual core machine as it has all of one cpu at 100% or 50% overall as shown in top, with 1.10 or there abouts processor reading , but it is that way on a linux 32bit machine, and yes we all know why and that is why some of us are looking forward to oscam++ / oscam2
