Default HELP! Windows Vista Home DISABLES media on my HP pavillion lappy!

I don't know if i should contact HP or Windows about this problem, but it's pissing me off bigtime:

ISSUE: AFTER WINDOWS UPDATES ARE INSTALLED, laptop refuses to play any video/audio media

Even though i have turned Windows Update and the Firewall off, Windows must still be forcing my computer to download updates. For example, when i first got the laptop i did a lot of update installs (software only, not firmware).

after i thought everything was sweet, i get this message when trying to access any video/audio files through Media Player:

Now, some information prior to analysing this issue:

    * I only have ONE account on the laptop, which has FULL functionality - me - the administrator.
    * The file is not in use by any other program; Windows is full of shit
    * Proxy settings do not play a factor; the internet/media player has otherwise worked fine prior to the issue.
    * My laptop is a Pavillion dv6001ax, bought it brand new.
    * HP support, who helped me the first time i encountered this, ran me through system restore, which fixed the problem, but potentially leaves my PC vulnerable.
    * When i run sys restore, i cannot ISOLATE or determinethe specific update that is causing this. Great job Windows!!

Long story short, when my computer sometimes "sneaks" some kind of Windows Update, i am forced to retreat back to a system restore point JUST to play audio/video files. Most of you will be aware with the whole security measures Vista take on specific files or drives, this is disabled, turned off (aka NOT IN USE) so for this problem to occur just tells me that this Operating System is literally a piece of shit. I absolutely HATE Vista, why they were so quick to move from XP I won't know...

    WHAT CAN I DO!?

I have a genuine copy of XP home preinstalled on my former laptop which sold. No longer have the recovery discs, so think i'm sh*t outta luck unless i wanted to go buy one. Stupid activations...

The problem should be a lot easier to fix or not occuring at all...

"Welcome to Vista. How do you want us to screw you over today?"

Just another example of why people shouldn't bother with this OS.

    XP works perfectly Ok.

no one have an idea? it seems its some kind of WINDOWS UPDATE that somehow magically installs itself without ever asking me.

I have removed ITunes and AVG Anti Virus thinking their updater is killing my system...but it clearly isn't...
