    Default Laptop/making DVD Region Free?

We have just bought a Toshiba L500D/00V (new) and I loaded DVD43 but the Mashita drive, UJ 890AS 1.50 refuses to play.
I got the message to try a site called RCP1.org for a hack.
I had not heard of this forum before so I am interested to know if anyone else is familiar with it.
The Hack advises there is a possibilty that if the hack fails, it MAY kill the DVD burner.
Obviously my wife will kill me if I knacker it after just 2 days so ask first and consider carefully.
It is not important for the Laptop to be Region Free as there are other players available.

If I did load the hack and it did kill the burner, would the Recovery option restore it to life?
My first experience with WIN7 and I just love no books, no directions, no idea !!!
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I know nothing about that particular drive, but if you flash it using the correct method and firmware (model/revision) then the probability of failure is low.... If the flash does go wrong, e.g. mains power failure and the drive no longer responds to flashing commands then it is probably a paper weight...unless it has a jtag port (PITA).

Most people choose to run software (such as AnyDVD) which removes the region code and other DVD protections. This is completely safe ie no flashing is required.

    Cheers.

P.S. It looks like DVD43 is just a decrypter - it does not remove the region code. Uninstall it and install AnyDVD. It will allow the DVD to be decrypted and also remove the region code.

DVD Decrypter alone will not remove some of the new protection, so you still have to use AnyDVD etc. Also DVD Decrypter is outdated and is now replaced by ImgBurn. It might just be the region protection on the physical media itself, or the drive.

rpc1 is a well known site. Nothing to worry about

We just get used to one thing and the buggers go and change everything.

The rpc1 site specifically targets the Mashita drive so either its a very commonly used drive in some brands of Laptops or a currently popular device.
I forgot about anyDVD, so its time to go check, thanks for the Info.
