    Default network printer problems

    Hello all,
    i have a home pc running xp that printer is connected to then the pc connects to a router and the bigpond modem connects to that.
    i now have a laptop running windows 7 and i am trying to share files and mainly print but i have been unable to connect to pc.
    Any ideas on how to fix problem??

    Not sure where you’re @, have you applied the share ability with the printer?
    Control panel printers & faxes right click on printer, note the share option follow the prompts.

    Hello Dazamich
    first, run the network wizard on the XP machine, follow the wizard, at the end of it, just choose the last option and finish the wizard.(a restart advisable)
    still on the XP machine, open printers and faxes, and share your printer,
    on the W7 laptop, go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers
    then right click on the empty space and add printer- choose add a network printer, it should find your shared printer on the XP machine, W7 will install the driver for it(might take a minute or two.
    on the W7 laptop open Network and Sharing Center, and change the setting to ON for the files, printers, and network discovery shared options, and OFF the password protection.
    see how you would go.

    The problem with sharing a Win 7 Computer with any previous versions is security settings.
    You need to lower the Encryption setting in Win 7
