Default The Chinese GPS Firmware Thread

Having owned a few varieties of these no-name chinese made gps units and having messed about with them a lot, i have bricked and semi bricked a few but i have always managed to bring them back to factory state with a firmware flash.

Are you stuck on the welcome screen? cant go further? hope is here!! Here's some firmware files to help un-brick your unit (or upgrade it!).

NOTE: THESE ARE WINCE 6 IMAGES

How to upgrade - restore your firmware

    Download your required file

    Extract it (unrar - unzip)

Copy files (not folder) onto your sd/tf card

    Hard reset the device

Let it do its thing......with the PA-84 units you will be prompted (IN CHINESE) during the flashing, click the left button ie: the yes button and let it upgrade the menu.

And dont panic while the pictures and indeed the menu show chinese writing it can be changed in settings.

The rom itself is in chinese and cannot be changed if you want the office add ons and NES emulator etc to work, however if you do require the english OS meaning wince 6 i can post a link but be aware while the unit will still function some of the extras like above will not.

With the YF GPS units the rar file will usually contain the following

    YFUpdate.exe (UPDATE UTILITY)
    yfospa06.img (OS - WINCE)
    YFAPP.WZP (DEVICE MENU)

    if your download contains

    BootPI06.bld or
    YFBtPI06.bld

DELETE THEM!! THEY ARE BOOT LOADER FILES!!!

putting those two files along with the others can and will permanently brick your device if they are the wrong type for your unit.

if you just want to update the menu put

    YFUpdate.exe
    YFAPP.WZP

on your card and update the menu

if your stuck on the welcome screen a full flash is required and thus put yfospa06.img with the other two files.

heres another link to 82AV6 Firmware...this is firmware only!!!! use it only if you unit is already stuck on welcome screen.

the menu is a different download for your model so i have posted 2 links above for 82A menus which are compatible (i am led to believe) with 82AV6.

WIN CE 6 ENGLISH ROM for YF GPS

This is the English version of wince 6 for use with YF made gps units only!! You can use this to convert your chinese interfaced wince 6 with an english version. But as i said up above if you use this with the iphone themed menus the office add ons and a few others will not work, they need the chinese rom as it loads office add ons each boot.

Thanks for your contributions! I own a unit with firmware 82C and it takes a lot of time for GPS to get to a valid signal state. Is there any fix for it?

Excellent post, NoService. Just to be sure, which firmware should I use for this one? 6", iphone theme, 4GB flash, 128MB RAM, 800x480. The PA0x or the 84A. And do you know the exact model number? I bought it off Ebay and the seller had no clue. Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for the quick reply, NS. Unfortunately, I made a mistake and bricked the unit during installing the MioPocket. Now it stucked at Welcome screen and I need to restore the exact firmware. I had downloaded the 84A firmware but the PA0x firmware timed out atm. Have u had other links (RS, MU ...)? Otherwise I'll try again later. Thanks heaps.

did you happen to write down the firmware numbers of your unit before you attempted miopocket?

was it 82a or pa06 do you know?

links for 800x480 iPhone pa06-82a are both working!

on a side note i too have done the same thing with miopocket , it seems to install ok but when you reboot......your stuck on the welcome screen and that's it. the fix is actually in the registry but seeing as you have no reg backup either a firmware flash is the only way to go.
