Yes, good news for many, however it still annoys me greatly that there are many blackspot areas that have no terrestrial reception now, and won't have in the future, that will have to wait until June 30, 2013 to have access to VAST.

That has finally put some meat on the bone. Roll on 15th Dec.

    Good news for many.

But, unless I've over looked it; it still doesn't address the issues for travellers (i.e. grey nomads, holidayers...).
It seems they have also forgotten about those areas already receiving Digital, but not the full complement of channels that VAST and Metro areas now offer.

You would think that regardless of what area you are in, if you don't have the full complement of Digital FTA channels locally, then you should automatically be entitled to receive VAST.
This VAST service should then reflect the channels not currently received and have them activated. This should also take affect from 15 Dec, but where is this written??

Feel sorry for our WA cousins, where the future for VAST is still unknown.

For the travelling nomads....Info about VAST

    from another forum

" Well, here is the latest information I can get for al those with satellite TV in their vans. I was speaking to a chap at Imparja, plus another chap at VAST (Viewer Access Satellite Television).

First of all DONT BUY A DECODER BOX YET!

There will be a special travellers pack out about December which will require a special decoder box to allow you to switch locations. There will be an extra small fee for this - but it will be a one off only charge.

This will give you access to the four main regions - yet to be finalised.

There will be no further registration required after the initail rego.

You can keep an eye on what is happening and what to do, by visiting thise site:

There is no information about the travellers pack yet on this site, but is coming soon.

Your current dish and LNB will work - also same satellite -the C1.

The new decoder will be around $300 "

    Good news for travellers

    What a crock!

VAST intend to make available decoders (and actived cards?) around December this year for travellers, but the poor bastards who have no terrestrial TV in many existing blackspots won't get access to VAST for almost another 3 years under the existing structure?

I think it's great the'll make it available for travellers soon, but they need to re-think granting access to those who can't and won't get terrestrial coverage where they live...... now!

    HI MTV,

You reckon there's logic in all of this?

    PS Thanks Husky61,

    It's a little like a school report.......

VAST is studying well, showing great potential in planning and diligence to his work.

Unfortunately, his practical application is lacking and it requires more input from VAST if he wants to achieve outcomes in his chosen field..

The whole VAST setup is just a joke. "Free" terrestrial TV now costs a fortune to setup.
I heard that Conroy and all his staff responsible for setting up this "claytons freeview", all received free lifetime Foxtel subs for their efforts !
Yet another $300 for a new decoder for the camper, instead of being able to use what you have.
Foxtel must be laughing their nuts off.

    Any more info on this?

Seems a bit odd, as it's not the box that decides what channels you have access to, it's the info programmed on the smartcard, as all VAST boxes will receive all channels, just the smartcard will authorise which (area) channels are decoded.

Spot on mtv. Hoping for more info too.

Or maybe this is another way, that they can get more money out of the less informed and tech savvy customers.

Obviously, if it's a bogus address (or more correctly, one which you don't receive mail at) you won't receive the letter.

That's if this confirmation process goes ahead of course.
Lucky for me I actualy do have a relative in the same street as my Unrelated 5 times removed cousin who I believe may have just moved to their address.
Aint I just the lucky one?
From memory doesnt that activation show both an 'Install' Address AND a Mailing address?
I know of quite a few people who have both a street and a PO box and there are those who because of Rural Mail runs (RMB') have 3 address's for the one property.
A good friend has one letter box on each side of the road outside his house because he is on 2 seperate Rural Delivery runs.
Also my MiL lives IN a nearby town in an area that the PO REFUSES to deliver to so they have a FREE PO box.
And it helps to know your delivery contractor too as they dont care where the mail goes if you ask them nicely.
What about the 'Grey Nomads' who use a Rellies addy, no one says you have to live there to receive mail.
So if they want a GENUINE street mail address, it can be arranged.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
