    Default High BER, any idea?

I am watching program from a satellite, the BER is very high and the pictures are full of mosaic. Do you guys have any idea to fix the this problem? I noticed it might caused by the low SNR.

    1. Poor dish alingment
    2. Poor connection
    3. Incorrect Transponder details
    4. Atmospheric condition
    5. Failing LNB
    6. Ingress moisture in RG6 cable

Basically it could be any number of things.....
It would be far easier if you did some testing first.
If you have another STB, try that. If you get the same result, you can 99% rule out your STB and start looking else where
Try changing leads etc etc, swap LNB etc
Did any recent strong winds move your dish? anyone been on the roof?

Depends on what you are watching too.... i know with a 65cm on D1, it is so marginal with some TPs that it is very easy to get the above condition.

Those 'stroms' can be a nuisance!

What oceanboy said above is a good start. I'd go with making sure the dish is pointed and the LNB skewed correctly.

I had the same issue where I would get high BER on ABC channels and info 156. The LNB skew fixed my issue with high BER but each case is different and as stated could be a lot of things. My SNR went up 10% when I fixed the skew as well but AGC only went up 1%.

I still have a prob with pixelation on box office channels and a few others though which is driving me nuts!

I had this problem with ch9 having ber rates that made it pixellate badly- finally gave up and changed the LNB from a cheapo thing to an invacomm as I couldn't get it aligned any better to up the quality . ber problem went away as soon as the invacomm was put in. also increased quality by about 5%.
