Default SKY Racing TV dishes at PUBS

I was driving around and noticed this huge old solid Sky Racing 3.0m?? dish at a Pub. Does Sky still use these dishes? Is this a big dish a C-Band or is/was it used for Ku becasue they were paranoid about rain fade? I noticed now that pubs seem to have Ku dishes. I was thinking one of these puppies might be good for marginal signal C and Ku applications. Any opinions or info? Maybe I should pop into the Pub and ask?

I always think the same thing when I pass by a pub with one of these dishes in the backyard, or elsewhere

I do notice that the pubs are removing them when they do renovations, so I doubt they are being used for anything,

    I think they are ku LNB's ?

I was looking at this one today and was wondering if it was a KU as well.

Ku..from old days..most have been replaced by smaller dishes.

If you know a sky installer, he is likely to have one or two stored in his yard.

Some years ago I contacted Sky about these, and they were very helpful in providing information on disused dishes etc, and gave me numbers for their authorised installers to chat to and price them out.

    Hope this helps

Everytime I pass a pub I think the same thing but I passed a pub in fawkner (Melb) the other day and noticed a new sky channel sticker on a 2 M solid dish...? This makes me think some might still be in use.... Most pubs have 2 or 3 Ku band dishes mounted near the old 2 or 3 M dishes so I thought they where all retired, maybe I'm wrong!

There is one behind the Daybro Pub, about 45kms from Brisbane CBD. I've always wonder if the Publican would be happy for me to back up the truck and take it away for them.

Give him a phone call...the worst thing he may say is no way, he might also be glad to be rid of it?

I thought they were still in use, the solids. Plenty of pubs with old cband mesh dishes around Perth that aren't being used (including my local).

There is one here that catches my eye everytime I pass it at the 'Court House' Hotel.
It is mounted on top of a brick building some 8 foot high by I guess 10 feet (3mtrs?)square but the dish itself is mounted on a quite substanial steel framework.
By the brickwork I think this shed like structure was built long before the Dish was mounted as the pub goes back 80 to a 100 years.
I have no idea if the dish is of a single panel or petals which would allow a bit easier removal.
The Court House was named because it is only seperated by a Lane from the Court House and years ago, the Police Station.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Yes Ive often wondered the same myself. Why had a 10 foot solid with you can pull in D2 on a 65cm.

They will still be used for Ku-Band for Optus-D2 Sky Racing service.

Why? Because of rain fade, they can not afford to lose a second of a race when a storm hits. They need 99-100% uptime, something a smaller dish could never provide with Ku-Band.
