    Default Simple IR extender

I'm trying to extend a IR signal over about 15m,
I've tested wiring a 15m long cable straight to the ir receiver on the stb and it works, but the remote needs to be able 10cm away from the ir on the end of the wire.
I thought this might have been a voltage loss problem, so i attached 5v to the extended ir receiver to see if this could help but it didn't.

Other then buying a kit from jaycar, is there a simple circuit i can make up to extend it?

    Cheers

here is a circuit of an IR Remote Extender (taken from Silicon Chip Magazine july 96)

and pics of them assembled - right one is built with veroboard, left one no pcb just like a valve radio - both been working fine since 1996

Without making a new type of wheel, does this help?

Yup, they work quite well. I put one in for a guy about 5 years ago. He has a big AV receiver/amp thing that runs his home theatre system - but it's in a cabinet that he likes to shut the doors on. Problem was when he shut the doors, the IR sensor on the amp was blind - and he couldn't control it!

Solution: one of these Jaycar boxes and the remote LED taped to the front of the amp just by the IR sensor

Bringing this one back up, It did work will with my DM500.
I've since upgraded to a DM800 and the extender refuses to work correctly.

Generally i have to press the remote control about 5 or 6 times or hold it down for a good few seconds for the box to pickup the one key press.
If im in the room with the box using the same remote works perfect.

Ive tried adjusting the Pot on the jaycar kit but it makes no difference,
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I had a look at the ebay ones above but found that they were 2.4ghz(same as wifi) or 433.9mhz(same as weather station) ?

I've got the same problem with my DM800, and have tried a couple of different ir extenders. My web research has led me to believe that the DM800, both genuine and clone, has a "special" (read "dodgy") ir receiver.

    Reference:

Read the thread above. I've given up on a working ir extender for the DM800 and am now looking at ways to neatly mount my dm800 on my wall-corner mounted tv (and as such eliminating the need for an IR repeater).
