    Default Connecting 2 STBs to the one dish

    OK. This is one of a number of dumb newbie type questions I am probably going to post. But i don't want to bugger anything up.

    I have a Disecq mororised dish currentlty hooked up to my Humax with Se**ct TV sub card installed. All runs well so far.

    Wanting to "get into it", I have just taken delivery of a DB7020. I want to connect the two together, or in serial off the LNB input. Obviously I can only look at the same satellite and polarisation (and transponder i am guessing)

    If I leave the Humax as is and then connect the out LNB to the LNB in on the 7020 I figure that will work BUT we will( I presume) have two competing power sources and data to the LNB and motor. So, do I turn off the LNB power on the Hummy or the DB (gotta figure out how to do that).

    - Yup have earthed the LNB.

    Any suggestions about how to configure this would be appreciated.

    Turn the LNB power off on the DM as the Hummer is the box controlling the dish and is also connected to the LNB.
    As you seem to be aware, you will only be able to look at the same polarised channel on the DM as on the Hummer.
    You could look at a dual output LNB and then what ever sat the hummer is looking at the DM could also.

    yeah like leroy said - I would go for the twin output dual polarity lnb
    it means an extra cable from the dish - but from there - its play time
    either one cable into each decoder
    or even better
    both cables into a 2 x 4 multiswitch (2 in 4 out)
    then you can feed four decoders (or 4 tuners)

    OK. Thanks all. So far so good.

    >nfnovice. The kids watch too much telly already, don't want to give them even more crap with their own STBs !! at this stage - but that's the point of getting this in the first place.

    So, I have Dcc, Dreambox tools - but can't see how I get the DB to ignore the LNB. Within Enigma, I set the LNB to no Disecq etc - but unlike the Hummy, can't see where I can turn the LNB off or ignore it. Do I do it by changing it somewhere else ?

    Hit the Menu button and select setup. Select service searching and the Satellite Configuration. You will see your sat and on the right hand side you see under voltage it prob says H/V. In the dropdown box go down to the bottom and select off. Don't forget to save your settings.

    ok now it's my turn for the newbe stupid q, I thought I could just plug another dreambox onto my my single sat.

    current
    sat (austar) -> DB

    I thought I could do, both watching different channels, is the above post a little more complex as he wants to look at different sats ?

    sat (austar) ----> DB
    |-> DB2

    mxd - this was covered once before - I am happy to be corrected - but I think austar all runs on the one satellite on different transponders all with the same polarity - therefore a simple splitter may achieve your goals.. anyone else remember this discussion ?

    Yup I am pretty sure it's all on C1/H with Aurora V.

    I don't/can't look at different sats at the same time unless i have a sep dish or LNB offset by whatever the positional difference is.

    Gonna be interesting if I want to watch Select and the Kids want to look at something on ABC.

    But, it raises another question (and I aint in front of it at the moment). Can I look at different transponders (same polarity) at the same time without splitters/switches etc ? Not really understanding what happens inside the LNB but does the STB inject the IF signal to the LNB or is it effectively done passively in the STB ?

    Horizontal will take it to 18v; so if the 'other' is watching something on vertical it'll have problems.

    The voltages don't go in serial,.. both in parallel and the greater will 'win'.
