i had Gemini installed on my box for a while.. always used to freeze tried re flashing different version, maybe its just my clone...
installed pli have not had a single issue since, been rock solid
For the uneducated, can the PLi fans hit me with why PLi is better than gemini?
After the "clone box detected" debacle I thought I'd check out the latest PLi. To be honest I'm not convinced it's worth switching to as yet. Gemini 3.6 is still my weapon of choice.
NOTE: ignoring the "clone box detected" version!

You lose a little memory with PLI. Can not install any good skins. Besides that as said above rock solid.
Have not tried 3.6. Anyone know where I can download. Can't find it on dreambox world
yeah but what are the differences - I have played with Gemini but have no idea what PLi even looks like - is it better ?, Gemini 3.6 & Gemini 4.10 have the same look & feel - does PLi have a better options??, is it better with CCcam, Newcs?? can you chat to it with the internet???

Gemini 3.60:
Why don't you just try it.......
And there is no problem with skins on Pli. That is a DM500 issues, not a Pli one.
IMHO (but I am biased) PLi is the best image, excellent OSD, far superior Web UI, the only downside is it's not a "MaxVAR" image on the 500, so there is much less space on the /var, which isn't a huge issue since CCcam is included in the image, so you shouldn't need any extra cam's to get things working. I know for you aussies that z80 made a "all singing all dancing" image that is supposed to have everything you need to get your whities up and running, and keep them going.
I have had the x-line skin working on my 500 for months now, so far I can't find a better skin as it has a great look and feel and it's easy to read no matter the TV size.
I think I may be biased too... But i've just had lot more reliable performance with PLi...
But ye, SPOT ON Bartender... I agree!
I was a Pli man for the last 4 years, but i have really been enjoying Gemini since Christmas, plug-ins work better, dreamcast works better, DreamDVD works better.
But yes, Pli has a far better web interface and flawless web-x-tv and the GUI is much smoother and more proffesional.
If i has to send a box to someone that doesn't understand things much, it would be Pli everytime.
If i wanted to tinker and muck around, Gemini is fun
I'm running both
pli on dm7000 great for DVR recording with a 500G HD running CCCam never miss a beat
on DM500 running gemini 3.6 with cccam no sweat except for the occassional over-heating and lock-up.
Its more to do with the boxes the DM500 clones do get hot and just stop.
The original dm7000 runs 24/7
the big 2 Aussie subscribers hav decided that you can't use any STB other than their own, so humax, dream probably strong and other boxes are rended useless - I can only assume you are either outside Australia or haven't subscribed to the 2 major providers, or just pointing to a different satellite

Haven't had any problems running ND$ on PLi Iolite 2008 editions for 500 / 600 / 7000 / 7020 using several combinations of softcams yet.
If & when ND$ does stop working in these boxes, it's hello SelecTV (again!) and so long fuxtel.
Likewise Windy, running cable Nd$ on sat 500s with Gemini 3.6. and son is using Iolite 2008, plus 600 pvr on Iolite also. all using CCam 1.7.1.
Hopefully these will not go down. Like you, if they do I will be getting rid of fox sub for ever. Also never buy a dbox again............(600pvr is genuine DM, other 2 500s are Ubuntu clones)..........
It is there but not the same as Gemini. If you have PLi Iolite installed it comes with a global satellites.xml in the flash, so just select the satellites you require and off you go. In the next release there are more satellites added and transponders updated and the 80 satellite limit all images suffer from has been removed but in PLi only (like the new Asian and Russian birds the have popped up recently)
It is a hobby so mileage varies
