Anyone know if a firmware upgrade will fix my issue at all described above? :/

    Hey there Marbs....
I would check for hardware issues first, faulty capacitors in the power supply being your first stop. Also check for leaky smd caps on the main board as I had a few to replace there too. I'll PM you the download link for the firmware files but bear in mind as with all firmware flash procedures, follow the instructions carefully (you will need a null modem cable) and there is always a slight chance it will go awry anyway and "brick" your TV, unlikely but it can happen....

Hi Guys, I hope you can help me as well.

My LG42LC7D first started not turning on at all, at power up the green light would just flash for ever, sometime just turning back to red. Checked power supply, for voltages not matching replaced all the power supply caps.

Now at turn on green light flashes then turns solid green but screen is black no audio. Nothing but the optical out is on as far as I can tell. If I can remember correctly it was in RGB mode at the time of last working turn off.

Will this software update help me as well?

    My model is LG42LC7D-UK.AUSYLJM

    Thanks in advance.

A firmware update may fix the problem but seeing as your LCD is a UK model you'll need to source the UK version firmware.

Thanks Mick, it would be a shame to permanently brick his motherboard because of a wrong file being loaded....

P.S. - have you got a callsign yet?

Well guys...After replacing the power supply caps and thinking everything was OK, as it did fix the turn on issue.

But yesterday, I pulled the back, back off and checked my voltages and sure enough I only have three places that the voltage matches the board.

Do you suspect that I should just go buy a used power supply board?

How close are the voltages compared to whats written on the board.

    Mickstv,

They are way off, some are 10% the rest are less then 10% I believe the 5V measured 4.9 and the 3.4 volt was spot on.

If I remember correctly the 19v read 19mV

Every where I look the board I have matches the LG42LC7D UB boards yet my set reads UK

When I look it up by the part number on the board EAX37617801 I see all I have looked at have a single 250V cap ( I forget the uF value) located towards the center of the board. It shows a space for the second cap, which mine has. I can't figure out which one is correct.

Hi ZYGIONE, It might pay too measure the voltages again. Generally if the voltages are only .1v .2v out I would say it's ok. That 19v rail if it was only 19mv you would be having problems so check it again also.

Obviously the set has been working ok.

    mickstv,

The voltages were 10% of the total value on all but the 5V and 3.4 volts. Then the computer went out. Once a bought a new one, I did find the rebuilt LG board and replaced it, and the TV is working fine.

Then the very next day, the wife says, I know you don't want any more troubles, but the TV in our bedroom won't turn on. Its a Sony. L is NOT G!!!

Thanks you all for your time.

    Hi,
I just read how you repaired your LG LCD and I am having the same trouble. I was just wondering if you could send me the link or software to upgrade it and how to do it. I understand that this post was 12 months ago and that you may not have it still but it is worth a try.
    Many thanks
    David

Hi David, I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I still have the firmware. If I do you'll also need a null modem cable.

Is the tv locking up on some channels or do you have some other problem with it.

I have been reading through this thread and I have the exact problem as Monkey Man. I have a 42LC7D-AB.AAUVLH no picture no sound just the green light on. Would it be possible to get the firmware update and the upgrade procedure? I sounds as though this could fix my problem also.

    Thanks,

    Michael.

I may still have the firmware here somewhere so I'll have a look and let you know tonight or tomorrow.

Be aware you'll need good computer skills and a computer with a 9 pin comport you will also need to get a null modem comport lead to connect to the LCD. It would also be best to have a computer thats running XP.

This is what the symptoms are and how it was caused.

    [Symptoms]
1.Latch-up ( no video and no sound, only power on/off operation is ok).
2.After power on, user setting values in OSD menu return to initial values.

    [Reason]
In RGB PC mode, some data is written by the periodic function per 200ms at the specific address of EEPROM.
If the write endurance capability of EEPROM is exceeded, the latch-up or re-initializing appearances occur.

    [Improvements]
1.Delete EEPROM write operation in the RGB periodic function.
2.Change EEPROM memory-map to avoid accessing the failure page.

This is what needs to be done.

[Download method in the latch-up state]

    1.Power off TV set.
2.Connect PC with TV set by RS-232C serial cable.
    3.Execute ‘DTV-Lab’ program or another RS-232C debug-program, and set baud-rate to 115,200 bps.
(For connection and baud-rate setting, refer to the usage of RS-232C debug tool applied to the other models)
4.With pressing the number key ‘1’ of PC keyboard, power on TV set.
5.After you check the message to be ready to download, select a file to send (or download).
6.If download process (including programming flash-ROM) is finished, TV set will be rebooted automatically.

You can use a USB TO COM adaptor and the nul modem lead to set running vista, thats what i use and no problems
as mick say you need good computer skills and set baud rate of tv as well as computer to 115200bps” in service mode

Hi CHRISS, would you have access to GSFS to maybe help mayres out. For whatever reason I can't find the 42" firmware, doing a search all I can find is the 26,32 and 37" firmware's. I'm no longer an agent for LG so don't have access to service.
