    Hey guys,
I'm fairly sure the same things happened to my TV as I was using it in VGA mode the night before it locked up.

If any of you still have the firmware update and instructions on how to install it I would greatly appreciate if you were able to PM it to me.

    Thanks in advance.

Be aware you'll need good computer skills and a computer with a 9 pin comport you will also need to get a null modem comport lead to connect to the LCD. It would also be best to have a computer thats running XP.

This is what the symptoms are and how it was caused.

    [Symptoms]
1.Latch-up ( no video and no sound, only power on/off operation is ok).
2.After power on, user setting values in OSD menu return to initial values.

    [Reason]
In RGB PC mode, some data is written by the periodic function per 200ms at the specific address of EEPROM.
If the write endurance capability of EEPROM is exceeded, the latch-up or re-initializing appearances occur.

    [Improvements]
1.Delete EEPROM write operation in the RGB periodic function.
2.Change EEPROM memory-map to avoid accessing the failure page.

This is what needs to be done.

[Download method in the latch-up state]

    1.Power off TV set.
2.Connect PC with TV set by RS-232C serial cable.
    3.Execute ‘DTV-Lab’ program or another RS-232C debug-program, and set baud-rate to 115,200 bps.
(For connection and baud-rate setting, refer to the usage of RS-232C debug tool applied to the other models)
4.With pressing the number key ‘1’ of PC keyboard, power on TV set.
5.After you check the message to be ready to download, select a file to send (or download).
6.If download process (including programming flash-ROM) is finished, TV set will be rebooted automatically.

    Hi Kirby
No thats not the lead you wont,
its a TWISTED serial cable (DB9 Female to female cable
This cable is used to connect “USB to Serial Converter or serial port comm. In PC or Laptop” to the “DB9 male connector (RS-232 connector)” of the TV Set .

Using RS-232 Null Modem cable (pins 2 and 3 crossover )
Make sure your PC or Notebook Port settings are correct in DEVICE Manager under Control panel-- System. (Port and Baud rate matching)
TV Baud rate to 115200 (set by TILT key on Service Remote or Press Menu key TV/Menu R/C simultaneously for 5-10secs. And change in menu Baud rate)
    Procedure
    FORCED DOWNLOAD METHOD:

    1. Leave TV in STBY mode
    2. Bring up DTV LAB( set up port etc)
    3.Click Connect
4.HOLD DOWN N0.1 key on PC while Powering up TV-
    5.It should go to Download Application-at ENTER COMMAND----PRESS 1
6.Click Program and find File and Click OPEN ---or it will just go to Program and find file depending on model response.
7.File uploads (blue Bar appears) as above method (unpacking – erasing- writng) and after completion should reset and last channel appears. (verify as above).

If you happen to download wrong file and it fails and locks up TV (no Pix )
Then use FORCED DOWNLOAD METHOD to recover.
Switch set OFF from AC outlet and let come back to STBY after reconnection to AC.
Use Power button on TV to Activate.

Our Australian firmware wont work with the 42LC7D-UB. So I wouldn't recommend trying it ok.

Hi CHRISS, I'm not sure that it will work and for the cost of replacing the board if it dies, it's not worth it.

Thank you!! for the info. I will continue to look. You are correct, i am in the US. Owner had an Xbox 360 connected to it and now its no audio/no video. Power button and light act correct though.

    I found this:

Would this include the complete firmware for the TV? The file size is much larger than your .pak file. Its 4.06Mb to your 1.52Mb

It appears it can be loaded from a USB drive too.

Dont think can update by usb cos can not get menu up and the set is in lock up state need to use forced download method, i dont no if US model has service RS-232 connector,
I would get the epk file for your model try USB if it start auto grate if not use the DTV LAB from here and use your software if its got a rs-232 upgrade port try that way but at least you have the right software for your set

Yes it has a RS232 port.

Is the epk the same as the .pak file?
