    Default streaming with Zapstream - a streaming example

    In all newer PLi images you will find an application called Zapstream [ see the PLi Wiki for more details - ] which is built into PLi (this is why its streaming is so good) and below is an example for;

    1. 4 different stream from 4 different DM boxes using zapstream - no pixalating
    2. in realtime
    3. to one PC running vista
    4. 1 box (bottom right hand corner) is using the old PLi flubber with NO zapstream. You will note it is pixalating a bit)

    Gidday Jonc.

    I'm using a dm7025 (I only have the one sat box) and currrently its running Gemini2 ver 3.4. We live in a remote locality and this box is our only broadcast source (Aurora Optus C1).

    One of the best features that I regularly use is streaming controlled by the web interface. Its taken a bit of trial and error with the settings for vlc but I can now get flawless streaming from live TV or files saved on the dm7025's hard disk (or both simultaneously).

    This means that while my wife watches TV, I can watch another channel or pre-recorded program streamed to my PC or my wirelessly connected laptop. (The dm7025 is wired to a Linksys WGT54g).

    I also use MView E2 to get a weeks worth of EPG automatically downloaded from the web (vSat internet) which means we make the most of FTA programming without the need for pay TV. I have played with PeterPan Image recently and have their Sqlite EPG working nicely but I haven't played with Iolite yet. The Iolite mipsel image lacks many of their features, I understand from their forum.

    Anyway I was interested to see you waxing lyrical about Zapstream. Maybe, it handles vlc with less intervention than Gemini2? or maybe its a bit tricky getting streaming performance out of the dm500?

    I have tried your trick of streaming multiple programs to my PC from the dm7025 and it is quite happy doing so... I just have trouble absorbing the simultaneous audio!

    cheers

    The VLC mute icon is your friend when you do this

    Good luck and yes wifi works well even to MS Mobile v5 & v6 devices i.e. you hand phone or tablet device.

    Hi AJM,

    I've been trying to get this going with VLC with no joy. Would you be so kind and post your VLC settings. Thanks!

    How do you get this working on a mobile device (eg. phone) - do you need a VLC client on the phone?

    Great work jonc, thanks for sharing it with us. Yes Pli is brilliant for streaming now. Gemini need to sharpen thier act when it comes to streaming!

    For those interested, you can also stream your Dreambox to the Sony PS3.
    You need to run a second OS on your PS3 (there is an option for it in menu), load Linux Yellow Dog, run M Player with VLC and Active X installed and you are done

    You can also load up the web interface on a Sony PSP and people have also streamed to the PSP. I have not tried myself. But just google it, it all over the place.

    Question

    Is there a way this works on Gemini 3.30 DM 7000 or a similar setup to play your movies on the TV through the dm?

    It can be done with your current image. In fact it can be done with most images.

    Download VLC frontend on your DM and configure from there

    There is this great new site called google, if you stamp in VLC frontend, this is at the top of the page!

    Depending on what browser is installed in your phone, simply open a local connection to your dmbox and click on web TV, if you are outside the LAN on the WAN you will need the aid of another application like this example on the PLi wiki;

    ReStream;

    Many apps here ;

    Question for you jonc.

    Streaming from Pli Iolite on my DM7020 is flawless.
    I have Pli Iolite in internal flash on my DM7000 also. Yet streaming is poor, it doesn't kick off when you open web-x-tv, just the Orange Cone, then when you change a channel via the web-x-tv does the picture come through. But when it does, it's really "notchy" like every second frame is missing?
    Or like a congested wifi connection, yet there is nothing on the wifi at all.

    Maybe a change to VLC settings? Browers is IE.

    also XBMC,there`s some scripts for boquets so you can change channels,but when using those scripts i get pixelation when watching video.

    instead i use a .strm file to watch the the stream on XBMC.
    just create a text file(notepad)
    put this in it(its the same as if you were to put in VLC)

    then change the .txt to .strm

    upload it to your XBMC video playlist folder on your xbox.
    to run it in XBMC,you will find it under the video playlist menu.
