    Default misbehaving DMR-EX77

Yesterday, my 2-3yr old DMR-EX77 DVD recorder stopped mid-function - copying from HDD to disk -and wouldn't eject the disk but turned itself off. It flashed U88 after struggling to restart so I manually ejected the disk and restarted the unit.

The unit beeped 2-3 times (the beep one hears when it's ejecting) followed by 2 more in a lower tone before switching to the clock or turning off. Sometimes it will show U61 and say the 'self-check' is complete and it turns off when I press 'ok'.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
(I'm hoping I can reboot or reset this unit so that it can function correctly again)

    Many thanks

do you know much about electronics repair?

    eg do you own a

    A. multimeter
    B. soldering iron
    C. philips head screwdriver
    D. ESR meter
    E. CRO

cause if you say no to all the above except C then my next piece of advise is going to be

    "take it to a technician"
When I explained to the guy what avatar I wanted, that wasn't what I meant!
