    Default Dm800?

Which DM800 are most people selling here?

    There seem to be two:
    DM 800 HD se
    DM 800 HD PVR

one has DVI and the other HDMI

    Gidday Allstarnz

I bought a few into the country around 2 years ago, which were a clone of the original DM800.
These were as the original, offered DVI output and also support PVR functionality either via network mount, or internally mounted 2.5" Sata drive.
Although, due to the location and limited area available inside to mount the drive, its best to install the drive externally via Esata connection.

HDMI, i havent seen in any Dreambox to date.
From what i gather, Dream were not licenced to use HDMI due to them using an opensource OS, which allows users to alter certain copyright protections.

    Performance is pretty good.
My 800 has been running non stop, and hasnt missed a beat.
One other thing i did do, was slow down the CPU fan speed, as stock out of the box it sounds like a jet engine.
I think from memory i installed 50ohms in series with the fan, which bought it down to a more quieter level, but still supplied plenty of cooling.

    Cheers

Clearly you haven't ever experienced a DM 500 HD or a DM 800HD se model!
Both of them have HDMI ports. Dream has moved to HDMI has their preference (even though they previously didn't want to use it due to extra licensing costs).

The DM 800 HD se model is the newer replacement model for the older DM 800 HD PVR model (which was also known just as a DM 800 HD or DM 800).

Clearly there are too much conflicting posts that are referring to the many different variants of CLONES, but the information I have posted above is valid for the original official boxes from Dream. The clone makers can produce however many different variants as they like and would obviously prefer to supply only DVI outputs as they wouldn't be licensed to supply HDMI.

Yep, that's correct, but the previous posters are referring to their experiences with CLONES which are a completely different matter as they can supply whatever they choose under any model name! (Only the MAC address remains the same..... LOL).

My 2 DM800's both have a DVI port, but they both came with a DVI -> HDMI cable and I have both connected to TV's via their HDMI port.

I ordered in a carton of DM800 se last week. They send me the dm800 pro instead. Bloody language barrier

But yes, the clones are moving on to the dm800 se version.

As MyComputers says, the dm800 is still HDMI, just via a DVI to HDMI cable that comes included with it.
Reality is an invention of my imagination.

Does anyone know further about HDCP(copy protection) on these digital outputs ?
Do the foxtel Pace boxes even implement HDCP ?
On my testing there is no HDCP on the dreamboxes output :-)

Yep, they sure do. Foxtel wouldn't be able to show most of their content otherwise due to restrictions imposed by content producers.

Also correct. Dream have no reason to enable HDCP as they aren't forced to. It's only an optional feature for HDMI and DVI.
