Finally got this all downloaded, unpacked & installed into MapSource, looks good a few minor changes noticed so far.
Can't wait to try it out on the GPS.
Thanks pietu, now that's a new map.
    Cheers, Tiny

Thanks pietu, this is a really great download. I noticed you have also made the BlueChart G2 maps available as seperate downloads for various areas which allows us with older units (and thus smaller SD card capacity) to enjoy the great outdoors. Is there any chance of splitting "TOPO Australia & New Zealand v4" into the various states? (Or at least less than 2 Gb?)

    Thanking you in advance

Install Topo into MapSource using MapSetToolKit, then use MapSource to make a smaller Mapset of only the States of OZ you want, then send it to your device or a card. Just leaving off NZ gets the map size down to 2.18GB so you would only need to leave off another State or part there of.
The only drawback with this, is that if you use the free version of cgpsmapper the created map will have the "Find" feature nobbled a little. Other than that the map will work great.

    MapSetToolKit & instructions here

Don't forget to install cgpsmapper & GmapTool as per instructions as they are needed for a successful result.

Any problems sorting it out, just holler.

If I understand you, just leaving off NZ & Tassie would allow me to fit mainland OZ on my 2 Gb SD card!! Absolutely marvellous, I'd be able to travel arround OZ, crossing borders without changing cards. Two concerns, auto-routing & when you say " "Find" feature nobbled a little" can I still use "search for address" on my unit?

    (o)(o)

Oooooopps, I notice you're from Tassie. Of course I'd have a seperate card (Tassie Topo & BlueChart) which I would put into the unit whilst on the ferry!!!!! Cheers

The search by address feature does not work in MapSource if you use the free version of cgpsmapper, that's it.

OK, not knowing what GPS unit you have I'll give you both answers to this.

1; If you have a Nuvi, (I have tried this on a 1490t), you can't search by address when in Topo Map, if its anything other than the original Topo map image unlocked or locked with a keygen key, it just says "No Map Data Available".
So the workaround for this is you have City Nav installed & operational, (make sure Topo is not selected in Tools/settings/map/info), then enter from the main screen "where to", enter the address, when you get to the screen when it says Save/Go, 'save' if you don't have a 'recently found' folder in your where to folder.
Then go back to main screen & go to Tools/settings/map/info enable Topo, disable City Nav, then exit to main screen again, go to "where to", 'Recently found' or 'save' if you saved the destination, select the destination, & go. Auto route works as per normal using Topo map.
The limiting factor here is that you can only search the City Nav data so you may as well use that map.
Of course if your going rural where City Nav doesn't cover then enter coordinates for where you want to go & Topo will auto route you there.

2; I have a Garmin Etrex Vista handheld, the address search & auto routing works as it does with the original even with the partial maps produced by MapSource from Topo.
So I guess the limiting factor must be how the Nuvi, old handheld & possibly some older units use the address database of the map.

Another thing, my Etrex supposidly has a 2GB limit for Micro SD card yet I use a 4GB card in it with no probs. Have OZTopo & Garmin Topo (without NZ) installed on the card & everything works great. Total size of gmapsupp is 3.3GB

I also have produced map sets of Topo with different Typ file (thanks to Precious) to change the color & size of trails making the map easier to read on my handheld, still the search & auto routing feature works as it should.

    Thanks Tiny,

Yes in my Nuvi I've a 8 Gb card, so I just drop multiple "AnyName.IMG" into the "map" folder and Bob's ya uncle! (Changed it to mass storage device) Then I usually select "City Navigator" & "OZtopo contours" until I leave the black stuff. Off track I switch between "OZ & Garmin Topo" since each have different POIs.

But my "old bushy mate" down the road has a "StreetPilot c320" which he tells me "ain't broke", just needs a better map. I've manged to get it to accept a 2 Gb card (thouigh it takes a while to load!!).

Unfortunately you can only load one "gmapprom.img" into the garmin folder and it takes forever using MapSource. I've created a few over the years. The "old fella" isn't keen on selecting different maps on his unit let alone changing SD cards!!! So he just drives arround with the one card (and complains they've changed the roads in the city!).

Bottom line - my "Windows" computer kept crashing. So I've gone "Ubuntu" (LINUX) and mapsource doesn't do what it use to !@#$%$^&**^%#@!!@#$

GMapTool with cgpsmapper free version combines anymap.img with any number of other anymap.img files to anyname.img (gmapsupp.img) without losing any functions & in mighty quick time compared to MS.

Your "old bushy mate" only really needs latest City Nav if the rural roads in his area are included.

The "StreetPilot c320" may not be broke but new GPS units are pretty cheap at the moment.

Large maps on cards usually take a long time the first time you load the card, then they are a lot quicker.

    Fair enough Tiny,

"Me old bushy mate" goes bush for months at a time, livin off the land, far from "rual roads". "City Nav" just gives him a blank screen day after day (nice to see some contour lines or the odd old mine etc). He just needs a little help finding his way back home (auto-routing).

But back to "Topo v4" it's to big for a 2 Gb card and the need to use MapSource. Just needing a smaller "map.IMG"

    Sorry I must be dreamin

So all you need is some kind person with a paid for version of cgpsmapper to post Topo 4 link with MapSource install & address search intact, or in state by state form so you can choose what you want.
    Wish you luck.
    Cheers, Tiny

    Sorry Tiny,

I was hoping MapSource wasn't the only way to divide a large "map.IMG". Obviously in your experience there isn't, and that I respect.
