    Default Garmin Kenwood Maps

    Hi all,
My wife has a Kenwood DNX-7320 head unit and runs City Navigator (Australia) 2008 on a SD card.

She'd be grateful for even 2010 maps.

I just dont want to shell out $300 on a map when other things on the unit down work. (non gps functions)

I've always had a tomtom and well they're easy.

Can i just use any City Navigator map and unlock it?

I've tried self image to clone my current maps just in-case i stuff it so I can go back, but even the clone doesn't work.

    any help would be appreciated!

    kind regards.

    Don't know the Kenwood Units.

Sounds like the SD card & Map are locked together. You may need another card to use a new map, I have not worked with locked cards yet.
Someone else may be able to answer that for you, or do some search & learn.
Not sure if the following will work, a quick search shows the unit uses Garmin software, so may be worth a try with a new card & keep the old card as a backup since you can't seem to copy/clone it. Remember to always backup everything as you may need it.

For the latest City Nav map you need to download here
Choose one of the Download Unlocked Image Links.

Unpack the .rar file & you will have a map called gmapprom.img this is an unlocked Garmin Map file that needs to go on an SD card compatible with your unit.
You will need to use the same structure on the card that is already on the old card. So for example if the card has a folder called Garmin with a file called gmapsupp.img in it then you will need to rename the downloaded & unpacked gmapprom.img file to gmapsupp.img either before or after you put it on the SD card.

If the original card structure is different to this can you let me know what the folder & files on it are.
    Good luck, hope this helps.

    Hi krytox

you can use the map file that Tiny suggested all you need to do is rename it to gmapsupp.img insteed of gmapprom.img

it gets placed in the folder named garmin

All good, slapped it in and worked straight away!

updating the O/S made it run a little better too.

    Thanks for all the help.
