Default Anyone watching MotoGP? There's been a terrible accident.

The race has been red flagged since lap 2 where Simoncelli was collected by Colin Edwards and Rossi. Have a look on OneHD for the replay, it's horrific.

From the footage, I would say he did not have much chance.

The way the stoppage and race cancellation was handled was pathetic to say the least.

They say the race could not continue because every available medical staff were working on him. For gods sake tell the crowd.
Although an occupational hazzard, any loss of life or serious injury is very sad.

Yep tragic loss to the MotoGP community and Marco's family. Everyone knows the risks going out there but you still never believe it will happen.

    RIP Marco, taken to soon

Looks like he took it straight to the back of the neck, it would have been as instant as possible, at least he did not suffer.

    RIP

Yes a sad week for motor sport.

It looked pretty instant when you look at the replay. The helmet coming off is not a good thing and the force required with the strap on would be a pretty big blow.
When the red flag went on for so long I was thinking this isn't good and when they cancelled the race I guessed he was gone.
The crowd could of been better informed. There might of been a riot becuse they didn't know what was going on when they cancelled the race.

By first reports he apparently regained consciousness on the track, so I don't think it was instant.

I wonder if there was an underlying medical condition that caused him to swerve & collect the other bikes. I couldn't see in the video as to what happened in the few seconds before he veered across the track.

he lost the front of the bike, the onboard video from the bike behind shows what happened just before

It seems he has had major issues with that track in the past. In 2010 he had 2 pre season crashes there, including one which cracked his helmet.

As he prepared to make his bow in the premier class in 2010, Simoncelli endured a real baptism of fire as he suffered two hefty high-side accidents at Sepang in the space of three weeks, with the second crash so severe as to crack his helmet and leave the Italian dazed and confused.
