When I explained to the guy what avatar I wanted, that wasn't what I meant!
If it's a Philips and the fault is intermittent, odds on it is dry solder joint related, I have touched up half the joints in mine, and it now works as well as new.
Common sense isn't !!!
Yes, those older Philips sets suffer badly from dry joints - especially the ones that have SMD on the underside of the board and standard components on top. They are a nightmare to faultfind.
Do these ones have the SB board you know the ones that stuff up every time and cost $250 for exchange
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all
Thanks all.Looks like a good resolder fixed it.
Will do
Thanks Ian
the green inductor on the upper side of the main pcb right next to the socket of the ssb pcb goes dry-joint regularly, it sits between the socket and the edge of the main board
that ssb exchange process with southside is such a rippoff , they just swap the main micro with one with updated software. hardly worthwhile anymore

i know what you mean bluedog, BUT it's got 3 months warranty on that sucker they supply, personally without an ersa soldering station i will NOT be attempting to replace that big bugger, let someone else do it and be happy with the warranty if they stuff it!

i mean its hardly worthwile quoting for that job anymore, customers just go buy a new one these days...
i have a troublesome philips dvd/hdd on the bench at the moment, warranty job, reboots every 5 seconds.
now if it was a LG i would just order up some pcb's overnight freight and have it fixed, being a philips its like getting parts out of a stone, then even harder to get paid
