    Default New Dish Install Sydney

    Hi guys,

Thinking about purchasing a dish kit for C1 today.

Hualin in Homebush seem reasonable. Firstly, does anyone have a better suggestion as to where I could pick up cheaper gear in Sydney today?

Secondly, if I am ever to be running two boxes off the one dish, what special equipment may I need? Is it as simple as splitting the cable in two from the dish? Or do I need to buy a special LNB that is capable of dual output?

I remember hearing something in the past about not being able to do both vertical and horizontal on seperate boxes at the sime time with the one LNB? Any truth to that idea?

In general, what equipment should I really be looking for? What specific LNB?

If I just ask for a C1 kit would that be all I need?

Sorry these are pretty simple questions, however I don't have much time if I am going to be doing this today, so it would be great to get some answers soon.

    Otherwise I'll keep searching.

    Cheers!

    Get a dual output lnb.

Each receiver will connect to it induvidually so you can watch h + v on each unit.

They will try to sell you a 60cm dish, try to go for a 90cm for a few extra $.

    So
    90cm dish
    Dish mount
    Dual output lnb
Enough quality wire to run to both receivers induvidualy.
    2 wall plates
Some more wire to run from wall to receiver.
8 f connecters. Crimp are better than screw in if you have a crimping tool.
Some nitro tape to waterproof your lnb connections.

    That basicly covers it.
    Hope that helps you.

That's perfect mate, thank you very much!

As for the LNB though, there are different types are there not?

I need a dual output, dual polarity? what are all the numbers like 11700 about?

Just wondering what I specifically need to ask for.

Also, what's a reasonable price to be paying for these things?

Thanks for all your help so far!

Dual output= 2 seperate receivers can be pluged in.
Dual polarity= It can do both h+v

So yes you ask for a Dual output, dual polatity lnb.

    11300 or 10700?

I like this mob but their in Melbourne, check their prices

While your setting up your dish maybe you should think about a
DUAL LNB HOLDER for Optus C1, B3 or Intelsat 8 (pass8)
    Wish I did

Those dual/triple lnb holders are shit. They will not work unless you have a dish that's over 1.2m

1.2 would be the minimum dish i'd recommend to try and get the optus cluster.
As for getting IS8 on the same stationery dish... forget it.

A 65cm dish is fine for C1. If you go to 85 or 90 there is no benefit unless you are further south of canberra.
The only other advantage to going bigger is that you can be sloppy with your adjustments and it'll still work.
If you get a 65cm dish, adjust it right, it'll go for years without a problem.

Bigger isn't necessarily better. It might catch the wind a bit better, or give the cockys a bigger thing to stand on, but thats about it.

If you wanna tinker with different satellites, get another dish or a motorised one.

Mightyboy, PM me with the prices you've been quoted and what you want to get. I might have something laying around...

    Hey guys,

Just reporting back to let you know I picked up the gear from Hualin Saturday arvo. Sorry Biggeorge, would have been in contact with you had I not have purchased it all already.

Ended up getting a 75cm dish with mount
    Single Output, Dual Polarity LNB
Steel pole with two brackets on it for attaching to stuff.
15m coax with connectors already attached.

    $110

The staff were excellent and discussed my situation with me and tried to help as best they could.

There are specific reasons why I ended up getting what I did.

Firstly, I am renting, and whilst I actually had permission to have foxtel installed, I didn't want to be drilling holes in the bricks and gyprock. I'm just gonna whack to the dish in the backyard and run the cable through a window. That way I get to take it with me later as well

Originally asked for a 90cm dish as per the first response to this thread, but they (and a helpful customer in the store) convinced me it was unneccessary for what I wanted.

I didn't get the dual output LNB as he said he had none in that my specific box would support. Ahem. He offered to order a special one for me for $25. I took the single output as I currently only have the one box anyway, just wanted dual for expansion potential.

So yeah, pretty happy all in all, good store, good people, seemingly good prices. (65cm dish would have been -$10, 90cm dish +$5, basic dual output LNB +$15).

I have put the dish and mount together inside, hopefully Monday I will get time to erect it and see whether I can get pictures. Got a few ideas.

Thinking about simply malleting the pole deep into the ground.

    Failing that...

Thinking about getting a square potplant and filling it with cement, sinking the pole vertically in the centre. Then burying the potplant in the ground.

I'm sure I'll keep you posted.

    Thanks again for the help!

Just thought I'd report back on my progress...

Got a chance to install the dish today.

Used a mallet to smack the pole about 80cm deep into the ground. Damn lot of effort but it's pretty sturdy now =) Went in at a bit of an angle, due to the repeated hits from that specific angle, I imagine. Not a problem though.

Mounted the dish on the pole without much trouble, it's a pretty good system really.

Put my media centre monitor up to the back window and opened the blinds so I could see the display from my Pace box. I did it at night so it was nice and easy to see it through the window.

Sat outside looking in the window and spinning my dish around. Side to side, then down, and so on. Didn't get anything the first few times, but I didn't even know what I was looking for. I was in the 'new dish install' part of the menu and wasn't sure wether I was looking at live info or not.

Didn't have a compass or satfinder. Just had a good look at the neighbours dishes and tried to replicate the angle as best as possible. Obviously got it slightly wrong as I couldn't find it for ages.

Re-examined the neighbours dish and made some changes. Was starting to lose hope when some lovely little coloured bars appeared on the screen!

Tweaked it a little until I got a green bar, was trying to tweak it even further to get green bars on the second line, but the pictures kicked straight in over the top, so I decided that was good enough!

All working beautifully now. No blips on the image or sound.

    Very satisfying!

    Thanks everyone for your assistance!

    some special things to noew:
    1. Ask yr neighbours have no objections.
    2. Keep it 90cm from any neighbour's fence.
    3. TRy to keep the neighours' view, visble.

85-90cm diam = improved resistance (but not immunity) against rain fade...

But anyhow, my experience with various LNB mounts is different to your own, though I typically use 85cm dish. About to do another two installs, one a 65cm dish and 2-way plastic LNB, D2 and C1 (ALJ). Second, a 3-Way steel - D2, C1 & IS8.

Jonsa's Multibeam 85cm unit is recommended, esp with 3-way type.

Given that Mightyboy didn't buy the dual output LNB can he now go back to his original suggestion of 'splitting" the single cable off to two boxes.

Its looks as though I am about to walk the same road as Mightyboy.

P.S Thanks mightyboy for documenting your progress/experience here and everyone else for your tips.

I'd still re-peak the az/el using the sig/qual bars on the worst transponder. Also peak the skew.

What stops the pole from spinning in the ground?

I know of people that are using twin holder on 90cm dishes with no problems. There are others that are using 3 to 4 lnb holders and claim all is good.
If I receive my lnb this week I`ll try my twin holder this weekend and post how it goes.

The Pole has two brackets coming of its side. They stick out about 80mm or so. It won't be spinning

How do I know which is the worst transponder, and how do I change them? Sorry for the basic question

Might take a picture of the dish later on for the record.

    Good luck bomberdude, and enjoy!
