I would try doing a restore to factory first off.

It's not but I've had the odd thing happen and done a factory restore, scanned in all channels etc and all is good. I've prob really only had to do this the once and I use my 9200 everyday. The 900 is the same animal except with one tuner.
The newer firmware has addressed most issues that have been found.

Well it was looking good as of this morning, channel changes were happening without freezing and it hadn't locked up, which by morning it usually had. I did have some issues with the channels being scrambled after a short time after factory reset. I stopped and started MCAS and all was well.

I spoke too soon, this morning it froze up again. Something that did happen which may or may not shed some light into the issue, the previous working recording before failure the message "Smart Card Initializing Irdeto" popped up. This would indicate that MCAS had re-initialised yes? Anyway after that message the next recording (channel change) locked it up.
By locked it up I mean, the EIT is displayed, there is no picture and I cannot open any menu items, exit or change channels. The only way to recover after this is to power off the unit (by IR or button works fine) and power on. Once the unit is on, the same message pops up and scrambled service appears for about 10 to 30 seconds (waiting for an update?) and then normal service resumes... until the next outage
Are there any logs on the device that I can review?
You can FTP to the box to check if there are any logs. I'm not aware of any.
You might want to start a thread about UltraPlus 900 and Mediastar 900 Austar 5.3/5.4 issues and see what others are doing. Mayber older firmware might work better but you can't go back too far due to the older firmware needing the older boot loader and I don't think there is any way of going back. Loading fw via serial port using Porter utility might work.

Hi Leroy
What do you mean by "You can FTP to the box...."???
Is this the same as using explorer to access the LAN IP and root directory of the 9200hd - e.g //10.1.1.2/root/xxxx? I've tried this way of accessing/replacing the "internettv.feed" file (e.g // my ip/root/var/freetvplus/internettv.feed)?
appreciate your help
Cheers
