No green or red light at all. I tried with another power supply but it still nothing happen. I'm sure it is not the power supply.

Have you got a multimeter? Measure the voltage across the pwr supply, if it's all good then crack open the dreambox and have a look for bulging capacitors. An electrolytic cap should have a perfectly flat top, if there are some that aren't flat cruise on down to jaycar and get some replacements.....it won't cost you more than a couple of bucks.

Thanks CoopsOz, I've already open the box but can't see any bad capacitors, maybe something else .... can you think of any other reason???

I have seen dry joints on the DC connector on the main board
but it is almost always been the plug pack can you try a different one
as the origanal still put out 12 volts but not
enough amps to power the thing up
even last night it happened to a guy i know
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all

Is the pwr getting into the box? Grab your multimeter, grab your earth from the chassis and see if you can find any voltage in there whatsover.

    Hi,

Check for any bad connection on the power input connector of the box, possible bad solder joint or connector .
Have had problems with two boxes, connectors rather fragile.

I am the guy best4less is talking about I had the same problem lights wouldn't come on and power supply still reading 12VDC but the problem is the PS isn't putting out enough amps to power the thing up.

I needed to try at least a 1A power supply to get the thing booted, a 500mA PS was enough to get a green light but not enough to boot the thing.

Also does anyone know if a DM500s can run fine with a 1A power supply rather than the 2A one that comes with it or can you experience intermittent probs?

Yes, they run fine on a 1A supply.

Not all power supplys are the same.

For example, if you were to grab a 12VDC, 1A supply from a Panasonic cordless phone, you will find it will fit fine, but the plug is wired backwards with +ve on the outside & -Ve on the tip. Just perfect for blowing things up

    Sorry if I'm stepping on your toes Fernbay;

The flag is the "Eureka Flag", it's the symbol for fighting for the rights of the little guy. A very important flag indeed!
