    Default Streaming to your PDA

I have the settings for Streaming to a WIFI pda using vlc and windows media player.. Work in progress. Just thought I could bring ppl up to speed to have a play.

    Install VLC on your PC.
    Enable zapstreaming on your DM

    Then goto FILE tab
    Open Network Streaming
    Click on HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS
    Enter in the URL space
    Under advance options click Stream/Save
    Then click Settings.. button
    In stream ouput click MMSH
change address to streaming pc's ip(the one your adjusting now) and port as what you want
You can also click Play locally if you want to see the output on the streaming PC
Now you have to click ASF as the Encapsulation Method
Click Video codec and Audio codec
Select birate to under 400 as I think that is the limit
Also Change scale to .5 to low RES.
Change Audio channels to 1 and bitrate to 96
Add say 10 to TTL for internet streaming

That should get you an out going stream of about 7kB/s whichis fine for 128 upstream..

Thats as far as I got.. I can see it streaming out but I don't know what to type into my windows media PDA player. I tried mms://yourdreamip:1234 but with no success. Does anyone have any ideas.. I'll keep trying

Jonc reckoned he could get it going using zapstream directly to your pda/wm6. I've tried but couldn't get it to work.

I'm loading a fresh rom on my pda/phone tonight for other reasons and I was going to see if it worked then.

Have you tried streaming directly to your pda?

    Works a ripper for me on my phone;

This is why I setup re-stream for this purpose so I can watch it outside via gprs / edge.

On the LAN via wifi as well. I am sorry you can not get it working, if you were around the corner I would say bring it around, but a bit hard to do when I am in Bangkok.

    Edit - Added this:

a few more off the wall thoughts.

    DMbox -> Capture to a hardware card and or Transcode to;

NSV and stream via the web with a NSV server to any Winamp device - real example here - <- this has al jazerra on it now
I can not find my digital camera (the kids have it) to take a photoof my PDA playing this stream, but it is.

Flash and use Adobe Media Encoder 2.5 to stream to any flash media device

Ok apart from the other two threads where I have done this already, what more do you want me to explain?

In the new example (the off the wall one above numbered 1)

Open any winamp / vlc / media player device to and watch it. You do have enough bandwidth from your mobile provider right? at least 64k or higher.

Note this link will die shortly as I need it for something else.

Ah forget it mate. Sometimes it's just not worth trying to clarify things with you.

AND you just added 2 paragraphs to your original post which was quite blunt. Also your advice differs to the other 2 threads you are referring to that work.

Sorry what was not constructive? I even gave you two other ideas how to do it, have written a mini howto in another thread, and answered in a few others as well (so why not use the original thread instead of all othese different ones?), and if you look on the PLi web site at some time a wiki for the two most common options.

Ok I could not get it working with WM6 on PDA. So here is another way.

    Install VLC on your PC.
    Enable zapstreaming on your DM
Download and install tcpmp player on your PDA. or if you can find or buy the coreplayer

    Then goto FILE tab
    Open Network Streaming
    Click on HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS
    Enter in the URL space
    Under advance options click Stream/Save
    Then click Settings.. button
    In stream ouput click HTTP
change address to streaming pc's ip(the one your adjusting now) and port as what you want
You can also click Play locally if you want to see the output on the streaming PC
Now you have to click ASF as the Encapsulation Method
Click Video codec and Audio codec
Select birate to what your upload speed is.. Watchable down to 64
Also Change scale to .5 to lower RES.
Change Audio channels to 1 and bitrate to 64 (you can change these settings to your pleasing)
Add say 10 to TTL for internet streaming

Then click ok, ok and it should start up ready for a connection

Now on your PDA and in tcpmp open this file.
Of course replace with IP and port addess.

Wont change channels.. But have some fun.. Going to sleep now

    Little up date.

Change video codec to DIV3. Its a lot better under small bitrate. This one is watchable down to 32, but of course quality is poor.

Also change audio codec to mp3. I think it encodes a bit small

If you have a network monitor send a avi or other video over your local network and look at the baud-width used. Selecting open file under VLC player will achieve this.

So now you can stream any source to you PDA..

Its taken me a while to work this out.. But got there in the end

You can now change channels and keep VLC streaming with no problem

    Here is what you do.

open VLC preferences and select stream output
Click Advance options at the bottom right
Now in the default stream output chain put your MRL that you got from the Stream output window (above post)

    Mine looks like this:
    #transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=1024,scale=1,acodec=mp3, ab=192,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=http,m ux=asf,dst=:1234}}

You have to drop the :sout= from your MRL

Then go to your dreambox web interface and click on the vpid: its about in the middle. This will ask you to open a m3u file. Click open and you will now see VLC start streaming.
Now click on VLC settings menu and then Add interface now click on Web interface.

Start up your player as above post. Now you can watch your shows on a laptop or PDA or phone or what every, and change channels and VLC will still stream that channel, pretty cool

The way I change channels is log onto my dreambox web interface and bring up the remote. Very easy to do!
