    My 2c worth on netflix.

I have been into IPTV for a few years and just last week bothered to investigate Netflix.
I have a Netgear Server setup with 8Tb of TV and Movies. I have Cat6 throughout my house and HiSpeed internet 100Mbps.
My Desktop PC's [3] [until yesterday] were Dual Core, about 3.0G running DDR2 4gig.
I have Playon as an Interface on 2 PC's and they work on all 7 TV's throughout the house. Playon has Netflix, Hulu etc.
Never had issues, never bothered to worry.
    However!!
Hooked up to Netflix the other day. Struggled to get anything. Thought it was IP addresses etc.
Did what you guys suggested. Bottom line, I got some stuff.
Which means I connected. Struggling though.
Noticed on the CPU Gadget on the Desktop was pumping at 95% while streaming Netflix via Playon.
Misses has been at me to upgrade my main computer as I have recently built massive systems for my kids and friends [but not me].
So yesterday down to Gamedude [biggest computer store in Oz - 2km from my house] got a 8core - 4GHz CPU, ducks nuts board -Asus - and 16G DDR3.
Netflix is now Flawless and pumping at 15% on the CPU.[Via Playon]

Still not sold on Netflix as I have been downloading TV and movies and will continue to that.
I do like getting 'LIVE' TV and Netflix is not catered for that. However by using the unblock-us it opens the door to other channels/plugins for Playon.

Now I have read a fair bit and still a little confused on a few matters.

ROKU. It is not capable of setting the DNS address and require you to have your Modem/Router set. Is this correct?
I have Optus Cable. A Cisco DPQ3925 HiSpeed Router. Which is not capable of allowing a change to the DNS Addresses.

So in short. I cant have a ROKU. Is this correct?

The only attraction for me to a ROKU is that someone has given me the idea that Playon is in the firmware and a PC is not required to stream.
I thought Playon required a PC at all times.

Anyways, I have cancelled Netflix Trial [but still get for 3 weeks] as it does not offer any more than I already have. [still Foxtel as well]

Keen on finding out more about the ROKU, but the DNS issue may stop me.

Yes, correct, you need to input the DNS into the Router, for Roku.....

you could get another Modem/Router that allows you to input/change the settings.....

alternatively, I have seen some People who specialize in modem/Routers,

who know how to change the DNS Settings using Telnet & the command prompt commands ......(May be able to Google search this for your Modem)

Some people also may be able to unlock an ISP Modem/Router ...... if it is locked to the ISP conditions.....but at this stage it may be easier to buy a new Modem/Router ?

interesting ....I have not heard this either ?.... but that would be good news....

I dont know why you would need (literally) a super computer to watch Netflix. I watch Netflix on a Roku which is tiny and doesnt even use what a light globe does. You can watch Netflix on a number of other devices which dont require a power station, such as WD Live TV, Boxee etc.

I have no idea about playon being in the firmware, I wouldnt have thought they are even related.

Sanity, why do you recommend buying $100 card? Wouldn't the $50 prepaid be fine since you need to continue the service of netflix or hulu plus with itunes US gift crads anyways don't you? Or am I a little confused?

You can buy any denomination card you like.

It depends on how you intend to keep paying for the services. If you buy a smaller credit amount, you will need to keep your accounts in credit with gift vouchers not itunes.

Those credit cards can not be topped up or reloaded so once the credit runs out you will need to get another one.

    Hi,

Is this the only way to get Hulu plus here in OZ on the PS3 ?

I have Netflix and Unblock-US working with an Australia post Pre paid Visa Card.

I also went and purchased a Australia post travel Visa Card for Hulu Plus but NO GO.

    Cheers

Netflix accept Oz credit cards, no one else does.

Buy a card from here for everything else.

Most other services require a us credit card registered to a us address. Only these cards will do that, the seller provides full instruction.

They wont work with all services, I cant remember off hand which they will and wont work with. As mentioned, many services now demand a US credit card registered to a US address. A card from powerseller does exactly that.

I might write up a new thread to replace this one as some things have changed since I originally posted and some better methods have been found.
